Douglas "Doug" Zacharias Obituary

Doug Zacharias, age 45, son, brother, uncle, and business owner, passed away suddenly due to an untimely death from a cardiac event. After completing high school and acquiring his Red Seal – Interprovincial Journeyman Welder status, he set up and operated a welding business for many years, serving clients and friends from several provinces. His exemplary skills in designing, fabricating, and welding were well known and respected, and sought far and wide. He loved a challenge and worked his way through with confidence.

Doug was dedicated to his business, family, and friends. He stayed in close touch through visits, texts, and emails on a regular basis and was considered a true, and helpful friend by many. In the course of his work, he humorously would say that he had been cut-up, blown-up, caught-on-fire and burnt, crushed…and yet survived! Doug enjoyed spending time with, and helping family and friends – camping, golfing, biking, working on vehicles, reading about and restoring antique vehicles, and renovating his properties. Doug was also an accomplished cook.

His smile and sometimes wild sense of humor, and strong opinions on a variety of subjects, was enjoyed and warmed the hearts of many over the years. For nearly 17 years his buddy, a shepherd-cross dog – Butch (predeceased) was a constant loyal companion and was noted as “Top Dog” by Doug, and Butch forever had a special place in his heart.

Doug is survived by his loving parents, Erla & Lloyd Meyer; his sister, Rhonda Reardon; his nieces, Claire, Hannah; his nephew, Mitchell; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and others he interacted with on a regular basis. He was predeceased by his grandparents; some members of the Zacharias family; and by his special pet, Butch. He will be sorely missed by his family, many friends, acquaintances, and business clients – leaving many fond memories of times together.  Rest in Peace Doug, all our love…we miss you dearly.
