It is with heavy hearts we announce that Enos “Eny” William Mitchell, 86, of Cabri, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Prairie Health Care Centre on Friday, October 18, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Eny was born August 3, 1933 on the farm near Shackleton to Enos and Mary Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Faye; children, Steven Mitchell (Shelly), Diana Mitchell (Karl), Barry Mitchell (Heather), Sheri Christensen (Mark), and Shona Kelly (Steve); grandchildren, Colton (Clarissa), Paige, Keegan, Brittany, Haley, Kaleesha (John), Kristen (Chris), Lacy (Chad), Dalen and Taylor; and sister, Elva Dutton. Further survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his loving wife, Rena; his parents, Enos and Mary Mitchell; mother-in-law, Annie Filyk; brother, Roderick “Scotty” Munro; sister, Isla Larue; brothers-in-law, Angus Larue, Bill Dutton, John Filyk, Mike Filyk and Julian Hlynsky; and sisters-in-law, Rose Munro and Nettie Hlynsky. After completing high school in Shackleton, Eny was involved in farming and trucking. He farmed the original homestead. In 1957 he married Rena Filyk from Sceptre and they resided in Shackleton. They had three children, Steven, Diana and Barry. In 1979 they moved to Cabri. Sadly, Rena died in an accident later that same year. In 1984 Eny married Faye Fines. She had two children, Sheri and Shona. Farming was Dad’s life, and even at 86 years young, he still felt like he should be in the field helping with the seeding and harvest. A trip to the farm to look at the crops sure put a smile on his face. Dad loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He had a soft spot for the cats at the farm and could be found delivering meals to them year-round. He was an all-around sports enthusiast. He enjoyed hockey, golf, baseball and curling. Hockey Night in Canada was a priority on Saturday nights when we were growing up. He loved a game of golf with a friend or his kids and grandkids. His love of baseball started in his youth. He played ball for Shackleton for many years as a catcher and eventually was a coach for the Cabri Pioneers ball team. Dad was an avid Blue Jay’s fan. One of his dreams was to see the Blue Jays play someday. This dream was realized, and became one of the highlights of his life, when his family celebrated his 80th birthday with him at Rogers Stadium. Dad cherished memories of family vacations and trips down south. He looked forward to hunting and fishing up north and he loved sitting around the campfire at Clearwater Lake with family and friends. Although Dad had many great qualities, he was best known for his sense of humour. It was something that never left him and something that we all loved about him. A special thank you to the staff at the Prairie Health Care Centre for the loving care and comfort Dad received during his time as a resident there.
