Evelyn "Evie" Mae How

It is with great sadness the family of Evelyn “Evie” How, age 62, announce her passing on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Clover House, Swift Current, SK.

Evie is lovingly remembered by her parents, Lloyd and Noreen How; her brother, Ernie (Cindy) How; her sisters, Cecilia (Allan) Leibel, MaryLynn (Lawrence) McRae, Beverly (Leonard) Carlson, and Lorna (Gordon) Deck; and her sixteen nieces and nephews, who loved their little auntie. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Anna Pitt and Richard Hattum; and by her colleagues and friends at Living Sky Casino.

Evie was predeceased by her grandparents, Ernie and Dolly How and Frank and Myrnia Wohlford; and by her niece, Kiera Carlson.

Evie was born in Cut Knife SK on June 15, 1956 — the third child of Lloyd & Noreen How. Evie was a strong, independent woman who loved to serve others. She completed her schooling in Cut Knife and then went on to take Early Childhood Education, a real estate license, and certifications to serve food and beverages.

Evie loved sports, especially the Blue Jays, and had a goal not to miss watching a game. A special event in her life was a sister’s trip to watch the Blue Jays in Toronto in September of 2017. Another special event was being chosen Employee of the Year at the Casino and enjoying a flight in a fighter jet, throwing out a first pitch, and being honored at a variety of events. Evie enjoyed playing ball and golfing.

Evie survived lung cancer in 2009, but in 2016, her colon cancer could not be successfully treated. After a long arduous battle, she died of this dreadful disease while at Clover House. Her caregivers loved her, and she was so appreciative of all the wonderful care she received.

At Evie’s request, she would appreciate any donations in her honour be made to Clover House in Swift Current or the Cancer Lodge in Saskatoon c/o Cecilia Leibel (Box 175, Denzil, SK, S0L 0S0) or delivered to Richard Hattum (Springs Restaurant in the Swift Current Mall).

A Private Family Interment Service for Evie How will be held at a later date in Cut Knife, SK.
