John Doerksen

John Doerksen, age 103, formerly of Glen Kerr, SK passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Care Facility, Herbert, SK.

John was born July 27, 1916 to Bishop David F. & Maria (nee Friesen) Doerksen at the family farm close to Main Centre, SK. John was a hardworking man all his life. He met and fell for a beautiful young lady named Susie Dueck and they were baptised on May 17, 1936 at Main Centre by his father. John & Susie were wed on May 3, 1938 and were together five days short of their 76th anniversary when Susie passed away in 2014. John & Susie were blessed with four children — Mary, John, Jacob, and Corny.

In 1956, John was elected as a minister and he served until late 1999, when the church closed — he spent many hours writing his sermons for the coming Sunday.

He loved farming, his John Deere tractors (which he repainted piece by piece), watching his crops produce, and had a great green thumb in the family garden as well.

John was predeceased by his wife, Susie, on April 29, 2014; his only daughter, Mary Hamm, on November 23, 2015; his son-in-law, Diedrich Hamm, in 2007; his grandson, Peter, in 2006; his parents, David F. in 1951, & Maria in 1966; and by his five sisters and four brothers.

John is survived by his sons, John (Shirley), Jacob (Lisa), and Corny (Cathy); his fourteen grandchildren; his forty-eight great-grandchildren; his eight great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service for John Doerksen was held on Monday, August 19, 2019 at 1:00 pm from the Swift Current Funeral Home Chapel, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Abe Funk officiating. The Interment Service was held from the Gouldtown Cemetery, Gouldtown, SK with John’s sons, John Doerksen, Jacob Doerksen, Corny Doerksen and grandsons, John Doerksen, David Doerksen, and Andrew Doerksen serving as Pallbearers.
