Welcome to the memorial page for

John W. Regier

August 19, 2017

John W. Regier, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK after two months of health issues. John Wilfred Regier was born April 23, 1935 to John & Susie Regier at the family farm near Herbert, SK. John grew up on the farm and attended the Reed Valley School up until 1945, when he and his family moved to Herbert. He continued his education and graduated from the Herbert School in 1953. The following winter, he attended The Herbert Bible School. John farmed with his father, and found time whenever he could to see his high school sweetheart, Tiena Funk. When harvest was done, John went to Vancouver for two winters where he worked for the Campbell Motors Car Dealership — always coming back to Herbert and Tiena. In 1957, he ventured out and bought a farm of his own just south of Herbert. John & Tiena were married on August 8, 1958. They welcomed their first son, Trevor John, in March,1960. In May, 1962, they welcomed their second son, Robert Scott. John & Tiena bought a farm near Herbert in 1965 and welcomed their daughter, Kelly Suzanne, in January, 1966. They raised their family on the farm, and had many wonderful and happy years. Along with grain farming, they raised cattle, hogs and chickens. Haying season was a special time for John and the kids. John, along with his good friends and neighbors, bought haying equipment together and called themselves LBJ (Leander, Bruno, and John). Many happy memories were made during this time. John & Tiena were baptized in 1977, and joined their church in Herbert, where he served on various committees and was Head Usher for numerous years. John loved sports, both playing and later coaching. He played softball with the Herbert Wheat Kings in a Swift Current league. As years went by, he coached his boys when they played softball, and was an umpire for many of those years. He also loved curling. He and his special team played in the Herbert club and travelled to many bonspiels, where their team did very well. John & Tiena loved to travel, they made many memories travelling with friends and family to Toronto, Florida, the Northern States, Nevada, as well as group trips to the Cypress Hills. John did not want to travel overseas because he said, “I can’t breathe under water!” John & Tiena retired from active farming in 1999 and moved to Swift Current, leaving the farming to their awesome renters. John did hail adjusting for two years with Henderson Hail. They joined the Bridgeway Community Church, where they served on the food committee, and volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels a week each month, for seven months of the year. Bridgeway is involved in “Adopt a Highway,” so they cleaned ditches to keep the highway through the city looking good. John gave up curling in favour of bowling with Tiena in a senior’s league. They bowled twice a week, until this past season, and made many new friends there. While he was in the hospital, John would open his eyes, look at the clock on the wall, and say to his kids and grandkids, “Aren’t you supposed to be at work?” The man we know as Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Opa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend has gone to be with the Lord. We all had time to say our goodbyes, and John was able and generous in his last days to let us all know how much he loved us! John was predeceased by his son, Trevor Regier, in 2009; his parents, John & Susie Regier; his sister, Elvira Neufeld; his parents-in-law, John & Agnes Funk; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ike (Mary) Funk, Ernie (Shirley and Trudy) Funk, Tony Dueck, Jack Sawatsky, Paul Dutchak, and Marie Bassendowske; and by several nieces and nephews. Left to cherish his love and memories is his wife, Tiena Regier; his children, Robert Regier (Swift Current, SK) and Kelly (Lyle) Zacharias (Herbert, SK); his daughter-in-law, Brenda Cartman (Herbert, SK); his eight loving grandchildren, Kama (Jeremy) Regier (Irvine, AB), Emily (Arek) Martul (Spruce Grove, AB), Graham (and friend, Holly) Zacharias (Saskatoon, SK), Kristina (Chris) Carey (Saskatoon, SK), Justin (Brittany) Wilson (Herbert, SK), Tyler (Kelly) Wilson (Warman, SK), Forrest Shale (Prince Rupert, BC), and Sheradyn (C.J.) Cartman (Swift Current, SK); and by his five very precious great-grandchildren, whom John lovingly referred to as his M N M’s, McKenzie Regier Armstrong, Morgan Major, and Mikayla Major (Irvine, AB), Madeline Wilson (Saskatoon, SK), and Nolan Mersey (Swift Current, SK).
