Katherine “Tina” Kroeker, age 97, passed peacefully away with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at The Meadows – House 20, Swift Current, SK. Katherine was born December 8, 1921 at home on the family farm in the Neville/Blumenhof area — the eleventh child of Heinrich & Margaretha Martens. Tina married Peter Kroeker, of Pambrun, SK, on November 11, 1949.
Tina & Peter lived on a farm near Pambrun for the first ten years of their marriage before moving to their farm at Blumenort, SK. They lived there until their retirement in 1982, when they moved to Swift Current.
Tina was a gifted homemaker and sewed many items of clothing as well as making many beautiful wool and patchwork blankets. She was a wonderful cook and hostess. Every summer she maintained a bountiful vegetable garden, while taking on the many responsibilities of farm life.
After moving to Swift Current, she and Peter carried on with homemaking, gardening, and yard work. They were deeply invested in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren — later, Tina enjoyed visits from her great-great-granddaughters as well. Tina & Peter also maintained a full social life and kept in touch with extended family and friends.
They were faithful members at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Swift Current. After Peter’s passing, Tina continued with her activities until she moved to Prairie View Lodge, a few years later to the Swift Current Care Center, and then eventually to The Meadows.
Tina is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; Eva, her children - Elden & Treena, Terry & Melissa (Casey, Kelsey), Jolene (Tanisha - Emma, Jayden - Evelynne), Jeffrey & Amanda (Rylan, Hailey, Nevaeh), Jeremy: Ben & Kathy, his children - Bradley & Tanya (Aleah, Darien), Tracy: and Marlene & Doug, their son - Douglas “DJ” & Jessica; her only remaining sibling, Mary Krahn (Swift Current); and by many nieces and nephews.
Tina was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 1997; her twelve siblings and their spouses, Margaret (Peter) Wall, Anna (Jacob) Kroeker, Katherina, Henry (his first wife, Florence, and his second wife, Agnes), Ben, David (Susie), George (Mary), Jacob (his first wife, Margaret, and his second wife, Gertrude), John (Helen), Isaac, Abraham (Susie), and Peter (Betty); and by her brother-in-law, Jake Krahn.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all the caregivers and nurses at the Swift Current Care Center and House 20 at The Meadows. We are grateful for your compassionate care. The family also thanks all who faithfully visited mom and sang with her. Those visits brightened her days.
The Funeral Service for Katherine “Tina” Kroeker was held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Wymark EMC Church, Chortitz, SK with Pastor Bryon Bezanson officiating. “What a Day That Will Be,” “A Child of the King,” and “When We All Get to Heaven” were sung by the congregation, with Jean Johnston serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Notes of Praise – Dave & Sara Fehr and Clarence & Justine Wiebe. Tributes were given by Tina’s children and grandchildren. The obituary was read by Bradley Kroeker. The ushers in the church were Duane Johnston, Ken Martens, Jake Martens, and Gordon Martens.
The Private Family Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Wymark EMC Cemetery, Chortitz, SK with Elden Epp, Terry Epp, Jeffrey Epp, Jeremy Epp, Bradley Kroeker, and Douglas Graham serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were all those who shared in Tina’s life.
