Lavern Halvorson Obituary

Lavern Halvorson, age 81, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at his home in Swift Current, SK. Allen Lavern Halvorson was born on August 31, 1937 at the hospital in Cabri, SK to Allen & Christie Halvorson. Lavern grew up along with his sister, Diane, and his brother, Larry, in the Three Buttes District for the first five years, and then on to Abbey, SK for his schooling. Lavern started farming in 1955, purchasing the Charlie Proctor farm south of Abbey.

On November 4, 1961 he married Sheila Hines of Lethbridge, AB and had three children, Craig, Kent, and Darren. Lavern was part of the Kinsmen Club of Abbey, played accordion in a number of local bands, namely The Rythmix, and was part of the Abbey Housing Board for many years. He enjoyed skiing (water and snow), snowmobiling, boating, golfing, fishing, hunting, and traveling with his wife, Sheila. He also loved his farm and cows.

Lavern will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Craig (Joani), Kent (Laurie), and Darren (Cindy); his grandchildren, Jessica (Kyle) O’Neill, Randa Halvorson, Amy (Devan) Smith, Jordyn (Geoffrey) Halvorson, Shelby Halvorson, Cody Halvorson, Kaylee Halvorson, and Jonathan Halvorson; his great-grandchildren, Jameson and Camry O’Neill, and Emma Halvorson; his sister, Diane Duncan; his brother, Larry (Brenda) Halvorson; his sisters-in-law, Gail Holland and Midge Fowler; his brother-in-law, Cliff (Sharon) Irvine; and by many nieces and nephews.

Lavern was predeceased by his wife, Sheila; his parents, Allen & Christie; his sister-in-law, Darlene Irvine; his brothers-in-law, Tom Fowler and Dick Duncan; and by his parents-in-law, Ambrose Hines and Ione Forbes.

The Celebration of Life for Lavern Halvorson was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the First United Church, Swift Current, SK with Ray Friesen and David Hagel officiating. Special music was brought by the Hagel Family, who sang “Psalm 62” and “When I See You Again.” Scripture readers were Jessica O’Neill and David Hagel. A tribute was shared by Craig Halvorson. “How Great Thou Art” was sung by the congregation under the direction of the Hagel Family.

A Private Family Interment Service was held at the Abbey Cemetery, Abbey, SK.
