Marie Wernicke

Marie Wernicke, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.

Marie was born July 15, 1938 to Peter & Anna Wall in the Neville District. She married Maxwell Wernicke on January 30, 1958 in Swift Current and together they raised six children — three sons and three daughters. Marie & Maxwell spent long days working on the farm together along with their children.

She took a stretch and sew class and found that she had a tremendous love for sewing, which she continued to develop, and she did beautiful upholstery work. Marie also took a welding course and became the first female welder at REM Manufacturing in Swift Current.

After Maxwell’s passing, Marie tried her hand at the hotel and bar industry. But her first love was farming, and she found her way back to the farm. She loved her gardens and there were always stray cats that were in need of her love and special care. She also enjoyed bird watching, fishing, sewing, and traveling.

Marie is survived by her six children and their spouses; her eighteen grandchildren; her nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother; one sister; and by numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family invited those who knew Marie to join them for a cup of coffee at a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 2:00  - 4:00 pm at the Coast Swift Current Hotel, with Marvin Allan officiating. In memory of Marie Wernicke, donations made to the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
