Marion Smith

Marion Smith, age 89, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Prairie Healthcare Centre, Cabri, SK. Marion Florence Smith was born July 2, 1928 to Knute & Florence Larson in Abbey, SK. She grew up with five brothers and two sisters, and received her grade nine education in Tulliby Lake, AB. She was very proud to have survived the 30’s as one of eight children. Marion attended Bible School in Saskatoon, where she loved singing in the choir. On October 20, 1948, she married James Richard Smith at the United Church in Cabri, SK. Marion loved being a homemaker and was a skilled baker — the Norwegian staple, Lefse, was her specialty. She enjoyed baking and cooking for the ones she loved, and having her house full of family and friends. Traveling and taking road trips as a family brought her tremendous joy. Together, she and James attended many baseball and hockey games. Music was very important to her, especially hymns and western music. Quiet hours at home with her cat were often spent embroidering. She gave greatly of herself to her children — and later, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — by investing her time, love, and prayers in their lives. She spent many hours in prayer and reading Scripture. “Marion always focused her heart and her efforts in life to bringing out the best in her children and grandchildren. Proverbs 31 is what we think of when we think of her. We will miss her dearly, her heart for the Lord, and her constant and loving prayers.” Marion leaves to cherish her memory, her children, John Smith (Lloydminster, SK) and William ‘Bill’ Smith (Calgary, AB); her step-daughter, Denise Sanchez (Houston, Texas); her grandchildren, Katryna Smith (Saskatoon, SK), Karla Bird (Lloydminster, SK), Crystal Smith (Lloydminster, SK), Meaghan Smith (Vancouver, BC), James Smith (Calgary, AB), Daryl Sanchez (Texas), Mark Sanchez (Georgia), and Shaun Smith (Nanaimo, BC); her great-grandchildren, Abigail (Lewis) Williamson (Saskatoon, SK) and David Bird (Lloydminster, SK); her siblings, Neil (Heather) Larson, Louisa Parke, and Gloria Larson; her sister-in-law, Gladys Larson; and by her nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her husband, James Smith, in 1993; her step-son, Wayne Smith; her daughter-in-law, Betty Smith; her son-in-law, James Sanchez; her granddaughter, Kathryn Sanchez; her brothers, Ken (Wanda) Larson, Willard (Gerdis) Larson, Gordon Larson, and Floyd (Winnie) Larson; and by her brother-in-law, Leonard Parke. 

The Memorial Service for Mrs. Marion Smith of Cabri took place on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the Scandia Lutheran Church in Cabri with Rev. Bert Turner officiating.
