Marlyn Buhr

Marlyn Margaret Buhr (nee Dombrowsky), age 81, passed away suddenly at her home in Swift Current, SK on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Marlyn was born January 8, 1937 to Abram & Margaret Dombrowsky in Herbert, SK. The youngest of three children, Marlyn grew up on the family farm near Neidpath, SK. She began attending school in Herbert at the start of Grade 5 and completed her grade school education there. She then attended the Moose Jaw Normal School and began her 42-year teaching career in 1956. Marlyn married Leander Buhr in August 1959. They moved to their farm near Herbert in 1963, where they raised their two children — Bonnie and Wayne. In 2017, they officially retired to their condo community in Swift Current. Marlyn will be remembered for her cheerful and friendly personality, her love of teaching and the farm, and the gentle, selfless way she cared for all generations of her family. Marlyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leander Buhr; her children, Bonnie (Doug) Meier and Wayne (Melanie) Buhr; her grandchildren, Corey (Tristan) Norton, Justin (Anna) Buhr, and Erynn Buhr; her sister, Anita Thiessen; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Irvin (Maggie) Buhr, Leona (Ed) Nein, Luella Friesen, and Mary MacDonald; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marlyn was predeceased by her grandson, David Meier; her parents, Abram & Margaret Dombrowsky; and by her brother, Victor Dombrowsky.

The Funeral Service for Marlyn Buhr was held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm from Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. “He Leadeth Me” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” were sung by the congregation, with Christine Hanel serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Anissa Forest. Tributes were given by Bonnie Meier and Wayne Buhr, and by Marlyn’s Grandchildren. The ushers in the church were Richard Forest, Barry Thiessen, and Peter Wiebe. The Private Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with Justin Buhr serving as Urnbearer.
