Mary Wells, age 94, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the Southwest Integrated Care Facility in Maple Creek, SK.
Brenda “Mary” Wells was born June 10, 1925 to Ernest & Eva Keeler in Swift Current, SK and grew up in the Waldeck District, SK. She attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK and taught school in Gouldtown, SK and Silver Craig, SK. Mary and Wallace Ross Wells were married on February 28, 1946. They farmed together with Ross’ brother and Mary’s sister, Harvey & Dorothy Wells, in the Waldeck/Highfield District.
Mary & Ross raised four children—Lee, Lorna, Doug (Jody), and Rob (Carol). They retired from farming and moved to Swift Current in 1983. In 2015, Mary moved to the Cypress Lodge Nursing Home, and later the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility, in Maple Creek. Mary was well known in the family for her cooking and baking skills. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and playing games such as Scrabble and cards. Mary & Ross also enjoyed many years of square dancing and the trips they shared together.
Mary is survived by her four children; her seven grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her two sisters; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Ross; her parents, Ernest & Eva Keeler; her brother, Arthur; and by her three sisters, May, Olive, and Janice.
The Funeral Service for Mary Wells was held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm from St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Maple Creek, SK with Archdeacon Peter Boote officiating. “The Lord is My Shepherd,” “In the Garden,” and “On Eagle’s Wings” were sung by the congregation, with Joy Anderson serving as pianist. The ushers in the church were Stephen Philp and Dean James.
A Private Family Interment Service will be held at a later from the Waldeck Cemetery, Waldeck, SK.
