Rhona Wiebe

Rhona Wiebe, age 63, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Rhona was born February 25, 1955 to Ben & Mary Wiebe in Swift Current. She attended school in Rhineland, Wymark, and Swift Current.

In July 1978, she welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Nichole Marie. One special memory Nichole has of her mom is when Rhona was making her a birthday cake. Unfortunately, Rhona got side-tracked and forgot all about the cake she was baking, so she made Nicky walk to the corner store to buy another cake mix for her own birthday cake. Every now and then, they loved bugging Rhona about that.

When Nicky and her best friend, Natasha, were younger they attended their first school dance together. Rhona phoned over to Natasha’s house to make sure the girls were still going. Hair, makeup, and pictures were finally done, and Rhona called again, asking “Is Deb or Joe still going to pick up the girls from the dance…are you sure?” All this to show what a great mom Rhona was — she was worried, concerned, and excited for the girls.

Rhona worked and took care of Nichole every day of her life, and she was an excellent mom. Sometimes life was good, sometimes times were tough — it’s hard being a single mom — but she never gave up. Nichole grew up to be a great girl, and she takes after her mom — strong and hard working.

Rhona enjoyed reading, planting her garden, flowers, and going for coffee with friends. She was well known around town for her many years as a waitress.

Rhona is survived by her daughter, Nichole Hanlon; her brothers, John (Muriel) Wiebe and Norman (Carol) Wiebe; her brother-in-law, Jim Ens; her sister-in-law, Sharon Wiebe; and by her nieces and nephews. Rhona was predeceased by her parents, Ben & Mary Wiebe; and by her siblings, Elmer Wiebe and Sharon Ens. She will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Service for Rhona Wiebe was held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 3:00 pm from the Church of the Open Bible, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the congregation, with Roxanne Funk serving as pianist. The eulogy was given by Melanie Beckett. The ushers in the church were Barry Wiebe and Darrell Wiebe. The Interment Service was held from the Wymark Cemetery, Wymark, SK with Barry Wiebe, Darrell Wiebe, Brent Wiebe, Keegan Story, Wyatt Wiebe, and Austin Wiebe serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Lanie Hattum, Melanie Beckett, Chrystal Peterson, and Rhona’s family and friends.
