Welcome to the memorial page for

Rose Mantie

November 29, 2017

Rose Mantie, age 89, of Swift Current, SK and formerly the Waldeck District, SK, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at her home in Swift Current. Rose was born August 17, 1928 — the second child born to Wilhelm & Kataryna (Backer) Wagner — on the family farm in the Rush Lake District, SK. Rose was raised on the farm and attended both Swan Lake School and Centre Spring School. While growing up, Rose attended Peace Lutheran Church with her family and helped with the family chores — which included raising cows, chickens, and pigs, along with growing a plentiful garden.

Rose met Albert Mantie, of the Waldeck District, and they were married at Peace Lutheran Church on June 12, 1955. They began their married life on the Mantie farm, operating a dairy. They later purchased a dairy farm in the Rush Lake district, where they remained for several years. After selling the dairy, they moved back to the Mantie farm, where they took up grain and cattle farming. Rose was always by Albert’s side — be it hauling grain, working in the fields, or doing chores. Rose loved animals of all kinds. They always had a farm dog and many cats, all of whom were treated to her “table scraps.”

Every year, she grew a plentiful garden which provided her with canned and frozen goods year-round. Rose was an excellent cook and baker — friends and family were always treated to an abundant lunch when they came to visit. Albert & Rose were faithful members of Peace Lutheran Church, and attended services regularly. Rose accompanied Albert on a trip to Hawaii as well as trips across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to visit family and friends. She probably would have been just as happy to stay home, but joined Albert to keep him out of trouble! Albert & Rose sold their farm and retired to Swift Current in 1993. They purchased a new home on Lister-Kaye Crescent, where they made many new friends and neighbors. Although in town, Rose continued to start her own seeds for her garden and still enjoyed canning her produce. She was always happy to have family and friends over for visits whenever they could come.

Rose was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Albert Mantie, in 2010; her parents, Wilhelm & Kataryna Wagner; a brother in infancy; her parents-in-law, Daniel & Wilhelmina Mantie; her in-laws, Art (Ann) Mantie, Elsie (Neil) Moore, Nora (Harry) Eichorst, and Harold (Ann) Mantie; and by her niece, Brenda Moore. Rose is survived by her sister, Susanna Wagner (Herbert, SK); her brothers, Victor Wagner (Swift Current, SK) and Reinold (Joyce) Wagner (Yorkton, SK); her brothers-in law, Harvey (Rose) Mantie (Swift Current, SK) and Gordon (Ann) Mantie (Stoney Plain, AB); and by numerous nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.

The Funeral Service for Rose Mantie was held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Linda Hall and Rev. Manfred Kurschner officiating. “Amazing Grace,” “Beyond the Sunset,” and “In Heavenly Love Abiding” were sung by the congregation, with Murray Eichorst serving as organist. Special music was brought by Manfred & Renate Kurschner. Scripture was read by Corinne Underwood and Kendall Wicks. The tribute was given by Vanessa Weg. The ushers in the church were Bob Neufeld and Darwin Gartz. The Interment Service was from the Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie View District, SK with Ryan Wagner, Daniel Mantie, Randy Cyhla, Carter Cyhla, Mark Mantie, and Wendell Patzer serving as Pallbearers. In memory of Rose Mantie, donations made to Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Peace Lutheran Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family.
