Sadie Giesbrecht Obituary

Sara (better known as Sadie) Giesbrecht, age 87, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.  Sadie Giesbrecht was born August 21, 1931 near Blumenhof, SK to Abram P. & Maria (Wolfe) Hiebert. She was raised in a large blended family where she learned many skills that equipped her to become an exceptional homemaker, wife, and mother.

Besides employment at the Swift Current Hospital, Revelstoke, Swift Current Care Centre, and H & R Block, she also did contract housecleaning, sewing, and painting. After Sadie retired, she set up a home business for accounting/income tax preparation and was completing income tax for clients right until she was admitted to the hospital in March.

Sadie married Abe Giesbrecht from Chortitz in 1950, and they were married for nearly 69 years. Their harmonious relationship, rooted in a solid faith in God, has been an inspiration and was blessed with five children. Sadie’s passion was cooking, baking, canning, pickling, making wine, and feeding her family or company. She organized a cookbook called “Kiss the Cook,” with favorite family recipes. She loved playing card games, had a keen interest in genealogy (authored a family history book called “Ancestors of Abraham F. Hiebert”), enjoyed their many trips (Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, Queen Charlotte’s Island, and Vancouver Island), and crocheted and knit many afghans, tablecloths, and doilies.

Together, Sadie & Abe built a house in Swift Current where they lived for 57 years before relocating to a condo in 2013. Sadie did all the painting and decorating, and their home served as a hub of hospitality for their family and friends.

Sadie was predeceased by her son, Anthony; her grandson, Steven; her parents; many of her siblings, Annie, Helena, Abraham, Peter, Susana, Maria, Aganetha, Jacob, Erdman, and Elizabeth; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Sadie is survived by her loving husband, Abe; her daughter, Debra (Romeo) Beaulieu; her sons, Thomas (Patty) Giesbrecht, Terrance (Penny) Giesbrecht, and Theodore Giesbrecht; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild; her sister, Katherina (Mervin) Coates-Wolgram; and by her many nieces and nephews. Sadie will be deeply missed, but we are grateful for many wonderful memories.

The Funeral Service for Sara “Sadie” Giesbrecht was held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm from Fairview Bible Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Daniel Butt officiating. “It is Well,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Since I Have Been Redeemed” were sung by the congregation, with Sandra Rempel serving as pianist. The eulogy was read by Leann Hildebrand and the tribute was given by Debra Beaulieu. The ushers in the church were Dave Wall and Harry Wiebe.

The Interment Service was held from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Peter Hildebrand, Cody Hildebrand, Levi Hildebrand, Dale Richards, Clayton Steinley, and Ryan Szaroz serving as Pallbearers.
