Vera Hildebrand

Vera Hildebrand, age 92, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the General Hospital in Regina, SK.

Vera Irene (Andreas) Hildebrand was born May 7, 1927 to Cornelius & Amanda (Wiebe) Andreas at home on the family farm approximately nine miles southwest of Herbert, SK.

After completing high school, Vera went on to earn her teaching certificate in Moose Jaw, SK. She taught at Ens School in the Main Centre, SK area and then at Big Coulee School in the Gouldtown, SK area. Her students spoke about the lasting impact she left with them.

Vera married Jacob Hildebrand on July 15, 1951 in Gouldtown — where they lived until 1986, when they retired in Herbert, SK.  Vera continued to teach for a short time after they married until they began raising their family.

Vera touched the lives of everyone she met, as she had the gift of making each person feel special. She loved all animals but had a special fondness for birds. She enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, crocheting, sewing, and embroidery.

Vera was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Hildebrand; her son, Baron Hildebrand; her parents, Cornelius & Amanda Andreas; her brothers, Vic Andreas and Neil Andreas; her parents-in-law, Heinrich & Helena Hildebrand; her brothers-in-law, Isbrandt Harder, Diedrich Dyck, Henry Hildebrand, and Isaac Hildebrand; and by her sisters-in-law, Lydia Hildebrand, Mona Hildebrand, Gloria Andreas, and Gertrude Harder.

Vera is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Craig) Jahnke (Glen Kerr, SK), Nancy (Verne) Gummeson (Cabri, SK), and Carol Hildebrand (Swift Current, SK); her daughter-in-law, Shelley Hildebrand (Gouldtown, SK); her fourteen grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Elaine Andreas, Mavis Andreas, and Helen Dyck; and by her nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service was held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK, with Pastor Lincoln Vellacott officiating. The pianist for the service was Marilyn Vellacott. “Shall We Gather at the River” was sung by the congregation. Memories and tributes were shared by Vera’s grandchildren and by Craig Jahnke, Verne Gummeson, and Shelley Hildebrand. Special music was brought by Amanda Jahnke and Ben Jahnke singing, “Till the Rivers All Run Dry”. The ushers in the church were Abe Harder, Roy Hildebrand, Janet Dahl, and Sheryl Friesen. The Honorary Pallbearers were Rebecca Gummeson, Amy Gummeson, Carissa Arnolde, Amanda Jahnke, Liz Jahnke, and Marissa Hattum. The Private Family Interment Service preceeded the Funeral Service and was held at the Gouldtown Cemetery, Gouldtown, SK with the following serving as Pallbearers, Jarrod Jahnke, Ben Jahnke, Dustin Gummeson, Mark Hildebrand, Jacob Hildebrand, Joseph Hildebrand, Luke Hildebrand, and Eric Hattum.
