Wolf Tuenschel Obituary

Wolfgang “Wolf” Tuenschel, age 80, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Amy, and family by his side on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Herbert & District Integrated Facility, Herbert, SK. Wolf Tuenschel was born May 10, 1937 to Kurt & Martha Tuenschel in Merseburg, Germany. He grew up in Germany with his siblings, Karl Ernst, Ulrich “Ulli,” and Heidi. Wolf came to Canada when he was just 19.

It was at the German Club in Calgary, AB where he met Amy Sawatzky, and it was love at first sight — they closed the place out that night and were inseparable ever since. Wolf & Amy were married on October 7, 1972 and began their married life together in Calgary. Wolf worked in the construction industry until August 1975, when he was in a severe industrial accident that nearly claimed his life. But through all of this, Wolf & Amy were able to continue their married lives together with joy and love for one another. Their trips to Germany provided fond memories of home, family, and friends.

Upon Amy’s retirement, the decision was made to move to the beautiful prairies of Saskatchewan, where Amy had been born and raised. Approximately five years ago, Wolf’s health deteriorated to the point where it became necessary for him to move to the Herbert Long Term Care facility. This became their home, Wolf never complained about his situation and Amy took great joy in spending time with him.

“Words cannot express how deeply thankful we are for the tender care he was given. Thank you to all of the staff and to Dr. Kassett for being so sensitive and kind to Wolf and his medical needs. It was difficult leaving each other every day, but before I left for the day, we prayed this simple prayer together, which brought us great comfort —

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord, my soul to keep.

If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord, my soul to take. Amen.

Wolf, you were loved. More than you will ever know.”

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 45 years, Amy; his beloved immediate and extended family in Germany and Canada; and by his friends.
