Abe Friesen, age 91, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK. He had been looking forward to this day for the last while, anticipating the glories of heaven and being with loved ones who had already gone ahead.
Abram “Abe” Friesen was born on August 12th, 1933 at home in a farm house near Blumenort to Jacob & Anna Friesen. Since he was born at home, his birth certificate didn’t show a city or town but a full legal land description. Abe was the third oldest in the family of 11 children, consisting of 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
Abe attended the Flowerville School in Blumenort for grades 1- 3, then went to Maharg School in Schoenfeld for grades 4-8, and then to Wymark School for grade 9. He later attended Briercrest Bible College for one year of biblical studies.
Abe and Evelyn Friesen were married on November 25th, 1956 at the General Conference Church, Schoenfeld, SK, and were married for 67 years until Evelyn’s passing in 2024. This union was blessed with 3 children.
Abe farmed most of his life with Evelyns capable help – mostly grain farming with a few cattle, chickens, and hogs. He also bought a small plumbing business, which he worked hard at for nearly 20 years. To supplement the farm income, Abe worked seasonally for McWilliam Construction, Ham Motors, and Wilton Motors in Swift Current.
In 2001, after selling the farmland and machinery at public auction, Abe & Evelyn had a new home built in Swift Current. Their new home and yard provided them with space for a good-sized garden and lots of room for visiting with family and friends. Attending Church and Bible Studies, camping with truck and trailer, as well as hosting family gatherings for birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas times, brought them much enjoyment.
Abe was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn, in January 2024; his father, Jacob Friesen, 1996; his mother, Anna Friesen, 2000; a sister, Nettie Friesen; his brothers, Henry Friesen, John Friesen, and Victor Friesen. He is survived by his children – Brenda (Michael) Roder – Chilliwack, BC, Doris Banman – Calgary, AB, and Wendell (Wendy) Friesen – Martensville, SK; his seven grandchildren, Shontelle, Brandon, Ammaysha, Logan, Jared, Colin, and Troy; his five great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Heather, Kaycee, Sawyer, and Britton; his brothers, Jake (Nettie) Friesen – Regina, SK, Bill (Shirley) Friesen – Schoenfeld, SK, Harry (Trudy) Friesen – Schoenfeld, SK; his sisters, Susie (George) Tschetter – Rhineland, SK, Mary (Abe) Ens – Swift Current, SK, and Helen (Vic) Schillinger – Airdrie, AB.
