Albert Cornelius Voth was born March 29, 1927 in Herbert, SK to Peter & Helen Voth — the second of eight children. Dad, along with his three brothers and four sisters, was raised in a very small house in the Greenfarm area, southeast of Herbert.
He attended the Greenfarm school and completed grade ten. At the age of 15 he began to work for other farmers and helped with all aspects of farming, including travelling with threshing crews during harvest for many years.
Growing up, dad and his family attended the Greenfarm Mennonite Brethren Church. At the age of 21, he gave his heart to the Lord and was later baptized and joined the church. He enjoyed being a part of the church choir.
While attending Herbert Bible School he noticed a certain young lady by the name of Adena Thiessen. With time, love blossomed and they were married on November 18, 1951. Three children were born to them — Gerald (October 20, 1952), Donald (October 18, 1953), and Valerie (December 10, 1954).
During their first year of marriage, dad worked on a farm south of Swift Current, SK before moving to Greenfarm, where he farmed with his father-in-law. In 1964, after his father-in-law’s passing, dad took over the farm fulltime. In 1965, dad and mom built a new house on the Thiessen homestead and moved the family there. Dad continued to farm fulltime until Don took over the farm in 1992.
Farming didn’t always provide enough money to support this young, growing family, so in the fall of 1958, dad started to drive school bus. He continued to drive school bus until the spring of 1982.
Dad and mom enjoyed travelling together, taking a total of twelve bus tours in North America and an agricultural tour to Europe. They often stayed in contact with new friends they met on these trips. Visiting extended family while on road trips was something they loved to do.
Dad enjoyed coffee row, making trips to town twice a day to enjoy coffee and conversation with his friends. While the frequency of attending coffee time dwindled in the last couple of years due to mobility issues and hearing loss, he still enjoyed meeting with his friends when he could.
God called dad home to heaven just before midnight on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at the age of 95 from the Cabri Health Care Centre, Cabri, SK.
