Barbara Adam, age 80, passed away after a lengthy battle with breast and lung cancer, complicated by heart issues on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Barbara Ellyn Adam was born June 21, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph “Joe” & Agnes Erwood. Her family moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois in 1945. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School with her focus in music in 1960. Barb worked briefly for a veterinarian in Crystal Lake, then she went to work for the Chicago North Western railway for several years. During this time, she was taking ice skating lessons at a small rink in a mall in Elgin, Illinois. Barb sustained a serious fall that damaged one of her kidneys, which had to be removed. Barb raised an abandoned woodchuck at the family cabin in Lake Vermillion, Minnesota. It was an education and a great little animal. At the end of the summer, they took him to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, where he was in the petting zoo and was a TV star on Groundhog Day for several years. Barb played the piano, flute, and recorder. She had piano students for years, including in Swift Current. She wrote a hymn that is in the Lutheran hymnal and also wrote for the Readers Digest. She was a good person all of her life and will be deeply missed. Barb is survived by her brother, Dick (Jan Bezie) Erwood.Barbara "Barb" E. Her husband, Donald Adam, was hospitalized a few days later and sadly passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
The Private Funeral Service for Barbara & Don Adam was held on Monday, June 22, 2020 at with Rev. Linda Hall officiating. The interment service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
