Ben Funk, age 92, was received with open arms by his heavenly Father on Friday, April 11th, 2025 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. He leaves to cherish his memory, his bride of sixty-five years, Helena; four children; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; his five remaining siblings, Helen, Betty, David, Sue, and Gladys; a large family, and a host of friends. Ben was predeceased by his parents, Henry & Lena Funk; his brothers, Henry Funk and Ed Funk; and by a sister, Mary Brown. Ben (Bernhard) Funk was born on January 15th, 1933 at the Hudson Bay farm, the second of nine children. The family lived in Rhineland, SK. As a young man, Ben and his brother, Henry, purchased land along with their dad south of Rhineland. He then stepped out on his own and purchased a farm/ranch in Consul, SK. Years later, Ben’s childhood home was moved from Rhineland to the Mennonite Heritage Village in Swift Current. It still brings many memories to the family. The lonely bachelor life of one year was too much for him to bear, and soon that led to his introducing his companion and life partner, Helena Hildebrandt, to the farm. Ben and Helena were married on June 20, 1959 and were soon blessed with four children, Bevin, Jennifer, Bob and Diane. Ben loved his family dearly, but his first love was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ben’s love for music led to him to singing high tenor with his brothers, Henry, Ed, and David, and Betty, their sister, was their pianist. He also sang with the Consul Church of God quartet and was the mission representative for many years. While in that role, Ben took numerous mission trips to Haiti, Africa, Bolivia and Mexico. Ben and his boys built a cabin in Cypress Hills Provincial Park, where they loved escaping a busy workday to golfing. Many weekends were spent in Cypress, with extended family and friends joining the Funk Family for fun. As adults, the boys joined Ben in farming, which eventually led to his retirement, with Ben & Helena moving to Swift Current. Ben’s hobbies and interests continued to be music partnering together with Helena on a worship team called Messengers of Hope. That team spent time ministering at The Meadows and Cypress House. The love of that hobby continued in Swift Current with the men from his prayer groups. As time progressed, Ben's health declined. His spirit remained quiet, content, and full of love for his Lord and family. Love you, Dad! Matthew 25: 23 “His Master replied, ‘Well done good and faithful servant…enter now into the joy of the Lord’.”
