Bruce "Sam" Carleton Obituary

Sam Carleton, age 66, of Cabri, SK passed away suddenly while on vacation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.  Bruce Douglas “Sam” Carleton was born on March 3, 1953 in Calgary, AB to Doug & Helen Carleton, the eldest of four children. Bruce was raised and took all his schooling in Cabri. Following his graduation, he moved to Saskatoon, SK to attend university. After a semester, he moved to Hay River, NWT. While there, he lived with his uncle’s family and found employment doing various jobs. In September of 1973, Bruce moved to Edmonton, AB to attend university. It was here that he met his soon to be wife, Colleen. They were married on November 8, 1975, in Lac La Biche, AB.  Together they had two children, Garritt and Kristy. In 1984, after ten years of living and working in Edmonton, Bruce and his family moved back to Cabri to return to his farming roots. He worked alongside his Dad and Uncle Wally, then later took over his Dad’s land and responsibilities. Bruce became very active within the community, however the main focus was the family’s activities at the Cabri Ice Centre. He joined the Cabri Lions Club and remained an active member until his passing. Spending summers at the Cabri Regional Park camping, boating, and visiting with friends old and new brought many hours of enjoyment to his life. Several years ago, Bruce & Colleen purchased a home in Mesa, AZ where they spent their winters — not just avoiding the cold, but making more friends who became part of their “Mesa Family.”  In recent years, Bruce’s greatest joy was found in watching and interacting with his grandchildren — Lily and Maddie. Bruce will be greatly missed by the family he leaves behind — his wife of 44 years, Colleen; his son, Garritt (Allison); his daughter, Kristy (Joe); his granddaughters, Lillian (age 4) and Madison (age 2); his siblings, Lee, Brian, and Janice (Hugh) Greer; his brothers-in-law, Bryan Woynarowich, Lorne (Gail) Woynarowich, and Garth (Kelly) Woynarowich; his sisters-in-law, Lynn (Andre) Richard and Sharalee Richard; and by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Doug & Helen Carleton; his father and mother-in-law, Elvin & Evelyn Woynarowich; his brother-in-law, Paul Richard; and by his sister-in-law Janice Wilkes.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from the Cabri Community Hall at 2:00 pm with Deacon David Hagel officiating. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Sam Carleton, donations made to the Cabri Ice Centre (Railway Ave, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0) would be appreciated by the family.
