Carolyn Johnston Obituary

Carolyn Johnston (nee Krause), age 59, of Swift Current, SK (formally of Hazlet, SK) passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Meadows, Swift Current.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Jared (Jade),  Denise (Kyle), Stefanie, and Stacie (Garth); her grandchildren, Chase and Karly; her mother, Lillian Krause-Swan; her sisters, Wanda (Nolan), Vicky (Denver), and Lehanne (Terry); and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Gary Johnston; her father, Floyd Krause; and by her grandparents, Alfred & Ida Loeppky and Edward & Catherine Krause.

Carolyn Joan Johnston was born on July 7, 1961 in Swift Current to Floyd & Lillian Krause. She attended and graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1979. After graduation, Carolyn moved to Calgary, AB and began working for an advertising company before returning to Swift Current.

Carolyn married Gary Johnston from Hazlet on November 27, 1982 in Swift Current at the First United Church and moved to Hazlet, where she lived until 2018. Carolyn drove school bus in the Hazlet area for the Chinook School Division (formally the Gull Lake School Division) for twenty years before retiring in 2015.

Carolyn loved taking international vacations during the winter months with Gary and her family and visited Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Chile, and Panama. In later years, Carolyn enjoyed annual vacations with her sisters — including Prince Edward Island and Niagara Falls, and more recently a trip to Alaska with her mom. Carolyn also embarked on several bus tours through the United States with favorite destinations including Memphis, Texas, and the Kennedy Space Center, as well as cruises through the Caribbean and Central America.

Carolyn enjoyed annual camping trips with the Krause family during the August long weekend to Cypress Hills and Drumheller. Carolyn was a fantastic cook and baker, and an exceptional hostess when receiving visitors or company to the house — she was famous for her gravies, stuffing, homemade salsa, and puffed wheat cake. Carolyn enjoyed relaxing visits to the Moose Jaw Mineral Spa and hot tubbing.

Love and family were always a priority for Carolyn and she devoted her life to her family and took special pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren — indulging in regular ice cream outings, sleepovers at gramma’s house, and a trip to Disneyland.

We love and miss you so much, mom.
