Clarence Renwick Obituary

Clarence Renwick passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Prairie Healthcare Center, Cabri, SK with his son, Ralph, at his side. Clarence was born March 13, 1923 to Burton & Ida Renwick in the farmhouse that he lived in until 2010. He was the oldest son of twelve children and attended Butte Valley School.

Clarence married Eva Willocks Smith on July 24, 1945 in Swift Current, SK. They spent their honeymoon in Regina, SK and he often recalled rowing together on a small boat across Wascana Lake. Between the two, they held down four jobs, saving enough money to come back to the farm in 1949. As a young man, Clarence loved to play ball, competing on many teams in the area. In later years, Clarence & Eva followed all the activities of their children and grandchildren.

Clarence was a progressive farmer — after watching the destruction of land blowing in the 1930’s, he became an early convert to minimum till and zero tillage. He served on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee for over 25 years. His long farming experience reflected the evolution of agriculture — from relying on horses to driving GPS equipped machinery. Clarence was proud to achieve and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the farm in 2009.

Characterised by his good sense of humour, Clarence was always ready to joke around or tell a story and was never afraid to be the contrarian at coffee row. He loved to read, visit, and stay on top of both agricultural and political news. He was knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects up until the last few weeks of his 98 years of life.

Clarence is survived by his children and their families; his daughter, Judith (Whitehorse, Yukon) and her son, Lee Suley (Alexandria); his son, Ralph (Mary K) (Cabri, SK) and their children, Kate (Mike Lee), Jacqueline (Jason Heit), Sean, and Thomas (Gabriela Perez);  his great-grandchildren, Archer and Burton Suley, Odelia and Oleander Heit, and Charlie Lee; his siblings, Leonard Renwick and Norma Montieth; and by his nieces and nephews.

Clarence was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Eva; and by his siblings, Blanche Renwick, Vivian Abrey, Audrey Merritt, Ken Renwick, Clifford Renwick, Maxine Tonsaker, Shirley Hilts, Richard Renwick, and Faye Presho.

A Private Family Graveside Service for Clarence Renwick will take place at a later date from the Cabri Cemetery, Cabri, SK.
