Cornelia "Nellie" Dyck Obituary
Cornelia “Nellie” Dyck (nee Froese), age 93, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at The Meadows in Swift Current, SK. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep, as was her desire.
Mom was born on April 17, 1933 in Swift Current, SK and was raised in the village of Rosenhof. She married Bernhard “Ben” Dyck from the Rhineland area in 1956. They spent their years together farming in the Swift Current area. After their marriage, they farmed rental property in the Simmie area until 1960 when they purchased their homestead near Rosenhof, SK. Mom & Dad were lifetime members and attendees of the Wymark EMC Church in Chortitiz, SK. Mom was a vital part of the church and many women’s groups. She joyfully and faithfully served where and when needed. Mom was rarely a designated leader but was rather a natural born leader where she led people prayerfully, with humility and confidence. Mom knew that her calling was to devote herself to her Saviour Jesus Christ and she intentionally set herself aside from the masses as someone who was committed and available for prayer and service to others. Her gifts of generosity and hospitality were evident. Anyone at any time was welcome to the farm, and her condo in later years, for a meal and deep conversation. Not only were you welcome, you were expected. Mom was not a big traveler but made it on several international trips including Belarus, Haiti, and numerous trips south of the border. After farming for many years, mom’s role was reshaped to a Swift Current farmer’s market icon. Her baked pies, breads, fresh hand-cut noodles, cinnamon buns, and perogies were a staple in the weekly market. Her regular customers could not only get quality products, but they could also get a prayer for a recent concern and even hear the gospel message of Jesus. The connections and friendships that mom made at the Farmer’s Market were significant and far reaching. Mom is also known as the singer. She loved to sing, hymns and old favorite folk songs. Her voice and guitar playing were widely recognized even into her 80’s when she played and sang for residents at Riverview Estates where she lived for 6 years.
Mom is lovingly remembered by her family, Daniel Dyck of Kelowna, BC; Fred & Karen Dyck of Apple Valley, MN; Eunice & Mark Dean of Calgary, AB; Thomas & Marina Dyck of Swift Current, SK; Valerie & Don Doerksen of Niverville, MB; Jeff & Johanna Dyck of Steinbach, MB; her grandchildren, Natalie & Lance Barkman, Justin & Brie Dyck, Tory & Lynette Dyck, Braydon & Becky Dyck, Jordan Dyck, Nicole Dyck, Milana Dyck, Kaelen Dyck, Shania & Joel Ruten, Keenan & Kaitlyn Doerksen, Brooklyn Doerksen, Sonya Doerksen, Jacob Sanchez, Joshua Sanchez; her great-grandchildren; and by her many friends and relatives.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ben Dyck (July 2006).
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK.
