Don Giesbrecht, age 73, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.
Donald “Don” Arthur Giesbrecht was born June 29, 1948 in Swift Current to Cornelius & Margaret Giesbrecht — the second youngest of twelve children. After graduating from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School, he attended International Bible College in Moose Jaw, SK. He worked for Revelstock and Frontier Construction before working at the Pioneer Coop, where he worked for nearly twenty-five years. Don also pastored at the Herbert Church.
Don married Marilyn Stinson July 1, 1998 at the Kiwanis Park in Swift Current. He enjoyed spending time at the rink watching his grandkids, Porter and Jaya, play hockey and being at the ball diamonds watching his grandsons, Austin and Ethan, play baseball. Don loved sports, he coached a women’s softball team and was an avid CFL and NHL fan. He also loved going fishing.
Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn Giesbrecht; his son Darwin (Mandy) and their children, Porter and Jaya; his daughter, Autumn (Darcy) and their children, Seth and Trinity; his stepson, Steve (Trynell) and their children, Austin, Ethan, and Emily; his stepdaughter, Shelley (Chris) and their children, Aaron, Chase, and Hailey; his siblings; and by his nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service for Don Giesbrecht was held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm from Restoration House, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Alex Allan officiating. “10,00 Reasons,” “Endless Hallelujah,” “My Chains Are Gone,” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Pastor Rob Winslow. Prayer was given by Pastor Emmanuel Appiah. The eulogy was given by Jack Peters. The ushers in the church were Tim Ramage and Derrick Snyder.
The Inurnment Service was held following the Funeral Service from the Mount Pleasant Burial Park Columbarium, Swift Current, SK with Don’s grandchildren, Porter and Jaya, serving as Urnbearers. The Honorary Pallbearers were Mike Fluegge, Owen Wall, Wayne Targerson, and Della Farnsworth.
