Doreen Klippenstein, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2020, at Willow Creek Manor in Swift Current, SK. Alice Doreen Gutwin was born on November 21, 1933, to Nicolai and Annie Gutwin, and grew up in Herbert, SK. When she was a teenager, her family moved to Swift Current, where Doreen graduated from SCCI and was baptized in Emmaus Mennonite Church. Following high school, Doreen attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK.
Doreen and Victor Klippenstein were married on August 16, 1953, and she taught with Victor in the villages south of Swift Current until 1955 when their first child was born. Doreen was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother to their two sons and two daughters. In addition to caring for the family, she found time to work with the Allied Arts Council, cook at SCBI, and serve as office secretary at Zion Mennonite Church for many years. She was very involved as a volunteer in her church and at the MCC Thrift Store, as well as with other community organizations. Doreen enjoyed working in her flower garden, singing and playing piano, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Victor; her children Ken (Judy), Rick (Edith), Marion (Ken), and Maureen (Rudy); eight grandchildren: Christine; Kristian and Taliah; Peter, Timothy and Rachel; Kate and Nick; and her brother Denis.
Doreen's family wishes to thank the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital and Willow Creek Manor for their kindness and care for Mom.
The Private Funeral Service for Doreen Klippenstein was held on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 11:00 am from Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Lois Bukar officiating. The congregation sang “For the Beauty of the Earth” under the leadership of Rachel Dueck, “Abide with Me” under the leadership Nick Niebuhr, and “Take Thou My Hand, O Father” under the leadership of Ken and Marion Dueck and Maureen Klippenstein. The Scripture reading, Psalm 131, was given by Kristian Klippenstein. Tributes were given by Marion Dueck and Maureen Klippenstein. The obituary was read by Rudy Niebuhr.
The Private Family Interment Service was held Tuesday, June 9, 2020 from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Ken and Marion Dueck, Maureen Klippenstein and Rudy Niebuhr, and Matt and Elaine Derksen serving as Pallbearers and Pastor Lois Bukar officiating.
