Doris Thoreson

Doris Thoreson, age 86, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 with her family by her side at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.

Doris Inez Maria Thoreson was born December 17, 1935 in Calgary, AB to Peter & Mary Maloney. She was raised in Drumheller, AB with her brother and two sisters.

In 1958 Doris met her future husband, Harry Thoreson, in Calgary. They were married in 1959 and lived on the family farm near Fosterton, SK where they raised their children — Kathy, Kevin, and Mark. They settled in Swift Current in 1965, where she remained until her passing.

Doris lived a very full and unpretentious life. She was very caring and generous, even though she did not have much herself — she recycled and reused just about everything, as that was how she was raised. She loved to walk and be outdoors in her garden. Doris also volunteered many years with the hospital and the SPCA, which was very dear to her heart. 

Family was extremely important to Doris. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grandpuppies meant everything to her. She loved to get together with family at any time but especially during the holidays, where she was always up for a game of Trouble.

Doris was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy; her parents, Peter & Mary; and by her siblings, Rose, Johnny, and Anne.

Left to cherish Doris’s memory is her son, Kevin (Shelley), and their children, Jenn (Jamie) (Keaton, Asher, and Ella), Erin (Chad) (Piper and Trig), and Kyle (Lindsay) (Jack and Lou); her son, Mark (Ruth) and their daughter, Amanda; and by several nieces and nephews.

At Doris’ request, there will be no formal funeral service.
