Dr. Douglas Murray Obituary

Douglas Robert Murray was born on April 30, 1956 to Alex & Elsie Murray in Vancouver, BC, where he spent his childhood with his parents and sister, Catherine. After graduating high school, Doug went to Canadian Bible College in Regina, SK for two years. During his time at CBC, Doug’s mother, Elsie, passed away after battling breast cancer for a number of years.

Following Bible School, Doug moved to the Okanagan Valley in BC with his father, then to Prince George, BC for a few years until his job took him to Calgary, AB. By God’s grace, Doug and Myrnalyn met at a College and Career event at the First Alliance Church in Calgary on August 17, 1984. At that time, Doug had a Sunday morning Christian radio show — a wonderful hobby that allowed him to explore his love of music.

Shortly after Doug & Myrnalyn met, they began to dream of their lives together, knowing they were meant for one another, and were already looking forward to the life they were going to make. After a whirlwind courtship, Doug & Myrnalyn were married a year after they met, on August 17, 1985.

After two years of pre-med courses in Calgary, Doug was accepted into Chiropractic College in both Toronto, ON and at the Palmer Chiropractic College in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. The next four academic years were spent in California where he excelled in his courses, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic. God gifted Doug with healing hands and a passion to care for others in this way. Throughout the years, Doug enjoyed his chiropractic practices in the San Francisco Bay Area and in El Dorado Hills, CA.

In 2016, Doug & Myrnalyn decided to fulfill their twenty-year-long dream of travelling the world together. After retiring from their wellness practice, Doug & Myrnalyn took their online health-coaching practice on the road with them, allowing them the freedom to travel while making a living helping others. The past three years provided the happiest times of Doug & Myrnalyn’s life together. They truly felt they were the luckiest people in the world to be living this dream together, and Myrnalyn continues to be grateful for the beautiful memories they made in this time.

Doug had a beautiful soul and a quiet humility. He had a love of all things cars and enjoyed outdoor activities like dirt biking, cycling, and hiking. Doug had an immense interest in astronomy, loved sunsets and mountains, and found a real passion for learning about the science of creation to prove the existence of God. This interest in creation science proved to strengthen Doug’s faith — the more he learned, the more it became clear that the details of creation didn’t matter as much as the loving, personal God that created him.

Family was very important to Doug, and his friends, who became like family meant the world to him, and he to them. Doug did not need material possessions and was content to spend his time experiencing the joy of travelling and dreaming with the love of his life, Myrnalyn.

On Sunday, September 15, 2019 Doug, age 63, died unexpectedly in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by family at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Myrnalyn; his sister, Catherine (Lorne) McDiarmid; his sister-in-law, Deborah (Don) Brown; his brother-in-law, Marv (Talita) Hildebrand; and by his nieces and nephews and their families, Jamie (Shannon) McDiarmid and their two children, Colin (Joanne) McDiarmid and their two children, Brittany (Brooks) Thoring and their three children, Lindsay (Brady) Funk and their two children, and Jordan (Alissa) Hildebrand.

Doug was predeceased by his mother, Elsie Murray; his father Alex Murray; his father-in-law, Peter Hildebrand; his brother-in-law, Vern Hildebrand; and by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
