Elizabeth Garnons-Williams, age 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK.
Elizabeth Mary Garnons-Williams was born on March 15, 1926 in Eastend, SK.
Elizabeth enjoyed her 100th birthday celebration 11 days ago with family, friends, and neighbors. This put a big smile on her face for the whole day. In her words, “You shouldn’t have gone to all that work for me”. She was always so humble and always put others first.
Her education started at Aylesford School, a one-room school in the Cypress Hills, and true to legend, the walk to and from school was uphill both ways.
For Elizabeth, her education never stopped, as one can imagine the changes and innovations that she has witnessed in the last 100 years.
Her kindness and care for others never ceased. Nearly right up to when she passed, she was always the first one to a door to hold it open for friends and family, regardless of their age. It was always a race to the door. But we are thankful that we did not hear her say when she got to the Pearly Gates, “No, you go first”.
She loved her many friends in Swift Current and enjoyed spending time playing cards at the library, dining, dancing, going to concerts, and attending church. She also spent many enjoyable hours volunteering at the local SPCA bookstore. One of Elizabeth’s dear friends described her as, “the best friend you could have and the nicest person she had ever met. Elizabeth was ALWAYS that way, she NEVER changed”! Emma is right!
At the age of five, her mother passed away, and Elizabeth and Francies were raised by their maternal grandparents, the Buckinghams. As the last surviving member of her family’s generation, she has now joined her siblings in Heaven, her sisters, Frances Hancock), Lucy Jensen, Marion Queen-Egert; her brother, Harry Garnons-Williams; her nephew, Dale Jensen; and by her stepsister, Daisy-Mae. She is survived by her nephews, George Hancock, Doug Hancock, Harry Hancock, Dale Hensen; her nieces, Heather Schefter, Doreen Macintyre, Carolyn Gailbraith, and Annette Jensen, and all their families; her two stepsisters, Janet Fawcett and Gayetta Godconton, and their families; and by her special friends, Cheryl, Emma, and Donna; as well numerous other friends.
Rest in peace, Elizabeth “Cissy” Garnons-Williams.
