Elmer Earl Dyck, age 88, formerly of Herbert, SK passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, with family by his side, in Clover House at The Meadows long-term care facility in Swift Current, SK.
Growing up, Elmer worked on the family farm together with his siblings. As he grew older, he took an interest in cars, always finding something different to call his own. Through family friendships, Elmer found a new interest – his future wife, Eva Schapansky. Elmer & Eva were married on June 22, 1958 at the Herbert Mennonite Conference Church and were blessed with 61 years of marriage.
Together they raised three children – Laurie (Bryan) Redekop, Rodney Dyck and Anita (Troy) Enns. Later, they welcomed their two grandchildren, Erin (Michael) Forsyth and Megan Redekop, and two great-granddaughters, Blayne and BrayAnne Forsyth.
Elmer was a hard worker his entire life and was self-taught in every aspect of his working career. His vocations included: heavy equipment operator, R.M. employee, mechanic, Shell bulk fuel agent, business owner in partnership with his brother, Alden, and church custodian to name a few. Church was an important aspect of Elmer & Eva’s life, and the two were baptized upon confession of their faith in 1970. Elmer was known for working with his hands, and in retirement enjoyed metal fabricating, wood working, and lawn and garden care. When he wasn’t in his shop or puttering on his John Deere, you’d find him and Eva cheering on their favorite team, The Toronto Blue Jays. After suffering a heart attack in 1991, Elmer’s cardiac health became an issue that followed him to his passing. His desire during his last days in long-term care was to go home and on the 8th month anniversary of Eva’s death, his wish was granted and the two were reunited in God’s heavenly kingdom.
Elmer is survived by his three children; his two granddaughters; his two great-granddaughters; one brother; and by many nieces and nephews.
The Private Family Graveside Service was held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK. The Meditation & Reflections was brought by Henry Thiessen. The obituary was read by Troy Enns, with Tributes shared by Erin Forsyth and Megan Redekop. Pallbearers for the service were Rod Dyck, Bryan Redekop, Troy Enns, Mike Forsyth, Megan Redekop, and Niel Block.
