The family of Elsie Penner (nee Neufeld) are saddened to announce her passing on Monday, August 24, 2020 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK — six days before her 95th birthday.
Elsie was born August 30, 1925 in Rosenort, SK to Abraham & Sarah Neufeld. She married Jake Penner on August 11, 1946 and together they raised three children. Elsie worked as a nurse’s aide and housekeeper. They lived in the Burnham District until 1995, when they retired and moved to Swift Current.
Elsie loved to play games, Skip-Bo was her favourite, and had a fun time with the grandkids. She always had a garden and sold vegetables, she was also an avid reader and loved to do word search puzzles in her later years.
For the last three years, Elsie was a resident of House 18 at the Meadows. She was a favourite of the nurses and loved to tease and be teased by them. Elsie’s family would like to thank the staff at the Meadows for taking such good care of Mom over the years.
Elsie is survived by her children, Alvin (Shirley) Penner, John (Betty Lou) Penner, and Thelma (Don) Phillips; her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sally Dueck and Lena Neufeld; and by many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Jake Penner, in 2005; her brothers, Dave, Abe, Herman, and Jim; and by her sisters, Gertie, Mary, and Tina.
The Graveside Service for Elsie Penner was held on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 3:00 pm from the Rosenort Cemetery, Rosenort, SK with Pastor Bryon Bezanson officiating. “The River,” Elsie’s favourite hymn, was sung by those in attendance. Rocky Fehr, Dean Backlun, Bryce Penner, Tracey Filewich, Tyler Penner, and Alison Penner served as Pallbearers.
In memory of Elsie Penner, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society and the Arthritis Society of Saskatchewan would be appreciated by the family.
