Gary “GC” Hadden, age 88, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri. Gary Carleton Hadden was born January 14, 1934 to Robert Sherriff “Shef” & Annabelle (nee Carleton) Hadden in Cabri, where he lived his entire life.

Gary was a farmer his entire life — raising cattle and working the fields — but he also had many other roles over the years. He drove bus for the Butte Valley-Riverdene School from 1953-1956 and worked as an electrician with Ed Oldhaver. He was also an agent with Crop Insurance and sold sheet metal for TS Metals for a few years.

He was a counsellor with the RM of Riverside for many years and served on the board of the Southwest Simmental Association.

Gary was a very active member of his community — he was part of the Cabri Brass Band and a chartered lifetime member of the Cabri Lions Club. He also played with the Cabri Bull Dog Hockey Team and in his later years, old timer hockey. He was a linesman for many years

Gary was a big fan of rodeo and belonged to the Cabri Roping Club. He loved to hook up his team of horses to go on trail rides with his covered wagon and took his team to many parades.

Gary had friends of all ages and there are many who would have a “GC” story to tell. He loved spending time with his family and having fun, he always said, “any trouble I ever got into started out as fun.”

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Home Care staff and the outstanding care he received from everyone at the PHCC in Cabri.

Gary was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Bonnie Haley; his parents, Shef & Annabelle Hadden; his brother, Dale Hadden; his sister, Bev Abraham; and by the mother of his children, Irene Hadden.

Gary is survived by his son, Clayton (Paulette) Hadden; his daughters, Shirley (Glen) Smeby and Della Mae (Gary) Hadden; his son-in-law, Dwayne Haley; his grandchildren, Crissy (Cam) McPherson, Tyler (Leigh) Hadden, Darren (Amber) Smeby, Jason (Cianna) Smeby, Devin (Megan) Haley, and Jenna Haley; his eleven great-grandkids, whom he adored; and by his nieces, nephews, and many friends.
