George Wall Obituary

George Wall, age 96, passed away early Thursday morning, April 23, 2026. With the late spring storm blowing in, he was finally able to be at rest with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our beloved dad, grandpa, and friend is now reunited with his soulmate in their heavenly home. Though we will miss him dearly, we will celebrate today that he is in the arms of Jesus forevermore. Grandpa was born on May 8, 1929, in the village of Blumenhof, Saskatchewan, to John and Suzanna Wall. He was raised with his eight siblings in birth order: Suzie, John, Ben, Joe, George, Mary, Katy, Bill, and Anne. He attended school in Blumenhof and enjoyed playing fastball and hockey for these years. Upon completing his education, he moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, where he was a labourer in construction and farming. Later, he returned home and began farming with his two brothers in the Blumenhof and Vanguard districts. On July 24, 1955, George married the love of his life, Margaret Zacharias, in Swift Current. The two of them began their marriage farming at Blumenhof for three years before they moved to McMahon, where they managed a General Store and farmed in the Pambrun district. In November of 1961, Grandpa and Grandma moved four miles west of Stewart Valley, where they farmed the land and raised cattle and pigs. Grandpa said, times were tough, but Grandma stuck by him through it all. Grandpa didn’t just farm for a living; he farmed for a lifetime, and his fields were his true pride and joy. Through that dedication, he instilled a strong work ethic in all of us.   Grandpa loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and Grandma took in as many activities and sports as they could. You could always count on them to be in the crowd, cheering you on. Grandpa was an avid Blue Jays fan and enjoyed the Swift Current Indians baseball games, especially when his grandson, Cody, was playing. They were also season ticket holders to the Swift Current Broncos. Grandpa and Grandma enjoyed travelling to Branson for the country music, Minneapolis and Seattle to watch the Blue Jays, Creston, BC to pick up fruit, and to Carlsbad Caverns to sight-see. Grandpa made a trip of a lifetime when he travelled with his friend, Walter, to Nunavut, where his niece, Vivian and her husband, served as his travel guides. He also made his way to Devil’s Lake, South Dakota, ice fishing with Darcy, Jevon, and Scott. In 2015, his life changed forever when Grandma went to her eternal home to wait for him there. From their shared home, he moved to Riverview, then to The Meadows, for his final days. His face always lit up as soon as any of his family and friends walked through the doors for a visit. He would still find ways to tease his family, friends, or his beloved caregivers. George leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Lorelei (Mark) Andreas, their children: Kyle Andreas, Keegan (Paige) Andreas; Renee (Dale) Hovdestad, and their children: Cody (Kaylee Thomson) Hovdestad, Scott Hovdestad, Ashley (Marcus) Holmes; Darcy (Tracey) Wall, and their children: Jevon (Kendra) Wall, Amber Wall; and his great grandchildren, Gigi and Gemma Andreas, and Noah, Nelson, and Gracie Holmes; and Reid and Madden Wall. Our family extends our sincere gratitude to the staff at The Meadows for the heartfelt support and loving care they provided to Grandpa.
