Gertrude (Wall) Dyck, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at The Meadows – Clover House, Swift Current, SK.
Gertruda “Gertrude” W Dyck was born on November 23, 1943, on her parent’s farm near Rosengard, SK, the 5th of 17 children. In 1950, the family moved to Swift Current into a house her dad had moved from the airport to the south side, across from Oman School. Gertrude attended the Oman School and Beatty Collegate, where she completed her grade 11. Gertrude met the love of her life, Ken Dyck from Wymark, and they were married on September 30, 1961. This union was blessed with four children, Ritchie (1962), Russell (1966), Theresa (1967), and Brenda (1970). They lived in Wymark all the growing up years of their family. In 1993, Gertrude & Ken moved to Swift Current where they resided until her passing.
Gertrude was active in the community and church, serving on the school board, working at Lizzie’s Store, and after moving to Swift Current she loved volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store. Gertrude also had a variety of interests – she enjoyed gardening and recently had raised garden beds built because she couldn’t bend over anymore, she loved sewing clothes for her children when they were young, and later making quilts, blankets, and personalized Christmas stockings for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gertrude’s love for her family radiated by how well she looked after them, always having time to play games with her children and grandchildren.
“She was the best wife, mother, and grandmother we could have asked for.”
Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 62 years, Kenneth; her children, Ritchie (Cindie) Dyck, Russell (Dana) Dyck, Theresa (Trevor) Weston, Brenda (Harvey) Thiessen; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; her siblings, Jack Wall, Marie Giesbrecht, Sarah Schmidt, Liz Dick, Agatha Krahn, Barb Loeppky, Helen Wall, Dave Wall, Margaret Harcourt; and by her sister-in-law, Linda Wall. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry & Marie Wall; her mother-in-law, Helen Knelson; and by her siblings, Abram Wall, Kathy Krause, Nettie Ackerman, Hein Wall, Dickie Wall, Julius Wall and Issac Wall (in infancy).
