Harvey Nybo Obituary

Harvey Nybo, age 78, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Harvey Bruce Nybo was born January 12, 1943 to Helmer & Vera Nybo in Swift Current.

Harvey met Cheryl Colter in 1960 while attending Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, SK. They were married on October 9, 1965 and shared 56 years of marriage. Together, they raised two daughters — Shannon and Karen.

Harvey was a kind and gentle man. He was a business owner, opening Central Esso and Cheryden Sports Center with his brother Don. Harvey also owned a milk delivery service and for the last 25 years of his career was a furniture salesman at Fine Furniture Oasis.

Harvey’s greatest joy was his baseball and family. He loved all sports — he loved to play pool and was very involved in the bowling league, scoring a perfect game, and attended Nationals in Newfoundland. He was a huge fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Boston Bruins, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

His love of baseball started at 8 years old. He started catching with the Swift Current Indians at the age of 16 and played with them for 13 years. After retiring from playing, Harvey coached and was instrumental in reviving senior baseball in Swift Current. He continued being involved with the game by serving on the board of directors with the Swift Current Indians for 23 years. Harvey was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013.

Harvey loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them — attending their activities and sporting events. Harvey also loved to travel, he and Cheryl travelled to 18 different countries over their years together. Harvey & Cheryl enjoyed over 40 years at their cabin at Lac Pelletier, SK. He would spend his time boating, snowmobiling, playing cards, and crib, a game that he loved.

No matter what he did, Harvey will be remembered for the way he interacted with and cared for people. He always had time to listen and a kind word.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Cheryl Nybo; his daughters and their families, Shannon Leclerc (Alan Castell, his children, Cameryn and Damon) and her children, Rachel and Celine Leclerc; and Karen Wiens and her children, Mya and Aiden Wiens; his sister, Thelma Grant; his brother-in-law, Barry (Cecile) Underdown; his sisters-in-law, Denise Nybo, Sue Lamarsh, Vel Colter, and Mary Ann (Mike) Drake; and by many special nieces and nephews.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Helmer & Vera Nybo; his sisters, Norma Ryder, Shirley Benallack, and Frances Olson; and by his brother, Don Nybo.

The family would like to thank the Swift Current Parkinson’s group members for their friendship and support over the past eight years.
