Helen Peters Obituary

Helen Peters, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Cypress House, Swift Current, SK after a brief illness. Helena “Helen” Peters was born January 10, 1933, in the Wymark District, SK to Peter I. & Helena Wiens. She received her education at Montford School and was baptized on her confession of faith early in life. Helen helped her parents with the family farm until she married Jake Peters in 1958.

Helen & Jake established their home across the road from his parents. Helen was a woman who demonstrated her attention to detail in all aspects of life and helped Jake on the field in the farm operation over the years.  She also enjoyed tending her gardens, planting vegetables, flowers, and trees. She was an encourager to everyone around her, as was witnessed by the many friendships gained throughout the years.

Helen & Jake retired to Swift Current in 2008. Together, they enjoyed their new home and treasured their many friends and neighbors. They enjoyed meeting friends for coffee or a meal in the restaurant.

Helen is survived by her sisters, Mary Koop, Beth Klassen, and Anne (Dave) Penner; her brother, Pete (Betty) Wiens; her sisters-in-law, Helen Andres, Elizabeth (John) Klassen, and Leona Peters; and by her many nieces and nephews, who Helen & Jake considered their adopted children.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 58 years, Jake, in 2016; her parents, Peter & Helena Wiens; her family members, Isaac Wiens, Jake Koop, Frank Wiebe, Al Martens, Donald Friesen, Ike Wiens, and Henry Klassen; her nephew, Clinton Wiens; her great-niece, Melissa (Fehr) Repetski; her great-great-nephew, Declan Wiens; her parents-in-law, Bernhard & Aganetha Peters, and second mother, Maria; Jake’s family members and in-laws, Aganetta, Mary & Ben Wiebe, Margaret & Henry Dyck, Herman & Anne (his first wife) Peters & Mary (his second wife), John & Betty Peters, George Andreas, Benny Peters, Pete Peters; her nephew, Elmer Wiebe; her nieces, Irene Ens and Rhona Hanlon; and by her great-nephews, Jeffery Peters and Eugene Friesen.

The family would like to thank the Cypress House staff and friends, they meant so much to her this past year.  We also wish to thank Cypress Regional Hospital staff for the exceptional care provided to Helen during the short time she was a patient in their care.
