It’s hard to put into words what 38 years of living together with your sister is like, but I’ll try.
Hulda Wiebe, age 93, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility.
Hulda Ruth Wiebe was born on October 5, 1931 at Herbert, SK to David & Aganetha Wiebe.
Hulda and I were very close, we did everything together. In our early years we lived on a farm 7 miles south of Herbert, each day walking 2 miles to school. We moved to Herbert in 1946. Hulda worked at several different jobs, she also taught Sunday School and attended Bible School for 2 years (an extension of Prairie Bible Institute) in Three Hills, AB. In 1952-1953 we attended Prairie Bible Institute for one year. I think it was 1956 when Hulda started working in the Swift Current Union Hospital in the Dietary Department and then transferred to the Lab Department where she worked for 35 years. Hulda received a watch for her retirement. When our Father passed away in 1958, Mother and I moved to Swift Current where the three of us lived together for the next 14 years until I got married in 1972. In the 1960’s Hulda was very sick with Rheumatoid arthritis and was hospitalized many times, sometimes her pain was so severe we couldn’t do anything to help her. We registered for a Holy Land Tour in 1969, and Hulda was in the hospital before it was time to leave. The ladies of our church prayed that she would be able to go. We went and Hulda took part in everything except two free afternoons when she stayed in the Hotel. When we returned home, she went to see her Doctor and had the best checkup she had ever had. The doctor sent out a questionnaire about what she attributed to her feeling better. Hulda said that she had been prayed for and that she was healed!! Hulda continued looking after our Mother who passed away in 1990. I will miss my dear sister very much. I saw Hulda on FaceTime a few weeks ago. She smiled when I said, “I’ll see you in heaven.”
Hulda was predeceased by her husband, Isaac; her parents, David & Aganetha Wiebe; and by most of her siblings. She is survived by one remaining sister, Selma Rempel, Chilliwack, BC; two sisters-in-law; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
I want to say a big “thank you” to Margaret and Esther for taking such good care of Hulda. You definitely treated her like you would treat your own mother. Thank you again!!
