Isaac Hildebrand Obituary

Isaac T. Hildebrand passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years, one month, and thirty days on the morning of Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the Herbert and District Integrated Healthcare Facility, Herbert, SK.

Isaac T. Hildebrand was born to Peter F. & Margaret Hildebrand on November 4, 1935 at the Herbert Hospital — the only child of eleven siblings to not be born on the family farm, Isaac was the eighth child in the Hildebrand family. Isaac started his education at the Riverdell School in the Gouldtown district, where he had to repeat the first grade as he didn’t speak English. He continued his schooling until he was needed to help on the family farm.

As a young man he worked at various local ranches, including Jahnke’s ranches, Art Potts, and the PFRA. Isaac then found employment with Chinook Earth moving, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Isaac met his wife, Mary Penner, and they were married November 25, 1978. Together, they raised two children, Patricia and Peter.

Isaac had a simple lifestyle, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and curling — the many trophies he won from both of these events proved he was good at them, too. He liked hunting, fishing, and camping, whether it was in northern Saskatchewan or just at “Harder Boys” or “Channel One” — as long as it was with family.

Isaac was brought into a family that always gardened and he enjoyed it as well, trying some new varieties of plants and tending to the old favorites. He especially liked the sport of rodeo, he even tried his hand at riding cows until a stomp to the leg put him in the spectator seat instead of as the competitor.

Even though it might have seemed that he had a full life with working and hobbies, Isaac’s first love was family. He never had to say the words out loud, all you had to do was watch — watch him spend most weekends helping his brothers, brothers-in-law, or in-laws farm. Watch him help fix vehicles if someone had a breakdown. Watch him go out of his way to have a much-needed visit with friends or family. Watch him retire early so that his children would always have a parent to come home to after school. Watch him pick up a book to read to the smallest niece, nephew, or grandchild.

Isaac is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; his daughter, Patricia (Trinity) Perrin and their children, Tristen, Trey, and Paisley (Swift Current, SK); his son, Peter (Leann) Hildebrand and their children, Cody and Levi (Hanley, SK); his sisters, Susan Edwards (Swift Current, SK), Helen Wiebe (Herbert, SK), Anne Trowbridge (Elstow, SK), and Martha Jacobson (Allan, SK); his sister-in-law, Geraldine Hildebrand (Allan, SK); and by many nieces and nephews.

Isaac was predeceased by his parents, Peter F. & Margaret Hildebrand; his brothers, Peter, Henry, Fred, and John (in infancy); his sisters,  Margaret and Aganetha (in infancy); his brothers-in-law, John Friesen, Kenneth Edwards, Daniel Gerlach, Cornie Wiebe, Larry Trowbridge, and Gerald Jacobson; and by his sister-in-law, Harriet Hildebrand.

The Private Family Graveside Service for Isaac T. Hildebrand was held on Friday, January 8, 2021 from the Gouldtown Sommerfeld Church Cemetery, Gouldtown, SK with Greg Penner, Mark Hildebrand, Derrick Hildebrand, Don Gerlach, John Doerksen, and Travis Gardner serving as Pallbearers.
