Jacob Friesen Obituary

"Therefore, you now have sorrow; but I will See you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you" John 16:22.

Jacob M Friesen, age 97, was called home to glory by his loving Saviour in the afternoon of October 7, 2024 at The Meadows - House 16, Swift Current, SK. Dad was born on July 8, 1927 in Neuhoffnung, SK to Gerhard & Agatha (Unger) Friesen. In his early years he worked as a farm labourer at various places, then for a few years as a carpenter. He started working for the city of Swift Current in 1965, first for the Parks Department and later for water works.

Dad was baptized on May 21, 1951. On November 3, 1957 Dad married the love of his life, Mary Wall from Rosenhof, SK. Their union was blessed with 8 children. They began life together at McMahan, SK and then moved to the Rosenhof area doing some farming on the side. In their retirement they moved to Swift Current and enjoyed condo community, gardening, traveling, and Dad really enjoyed woodworking. He did some amazing woodworking projects that we as children and grandchildren could enjoy. Because of Dad's woodworking skills and his joy in serving others he became the "fix it man" for many neighbors. He was very particular and took pride in the work he did, blessing many people. Dad faithfully served as a Deacon in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church from April 1971. On July 6, 2021, due to mom's failing health, Dad & Mom moved to Willow Creek Manor in Swift Current. Then on November 1, 2021 they moved to The Meadows where Dad resided till his passing. Dad's love for mom was so evident in how he so lovingly cared for mom throughout their marriage and especially during mom's illness, caring for her the best he could until her passing. Dad leaves to mourn his children, Anna (John) Dyck, George (Marlene) Friesen, John (Barb) Friesen, Jake Friesen, Tim (Lisa) Friesen, Mary (Cornie) Hildebrand, and Betty (Martin) Elias; his daughter-in-law, Trudi Friesen; his twenty grandchildren; his thirty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Isaac Friesen; his grandson Timothy Friesen; his parents, Gerhard & Agatha Friesen; and by all his siblings.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
