Jean Cornea, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Jean was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

Jean Cornea was born on September 13, 1936 at Morse, SK to Henry and Lydia Fech. She completed her grade 12 education, then went on to Business College in Regina, SK, and after college she worked at Imperial Oil for a few years. Jean and John Cornea were married on October 13, 1959 in Regina, SK and she became a full-time farm wife. In 1961 Jean & John bought their first farm which would be home for the next forty-four years. They became a family in 1971 when their son, David, was born, followed by a daughter, Darla, in 1973. Jean served on the Herbert School Division Board from 1986 – 1994. Jean was an accomplished knitter, baker, and gardener. She played the piano and liked to read. She also volunteered within the community. Everyone was so excited when Jean would make bierocks. Her brother, Gordon, would complain about being so full but would continue to eat more…they were just so good! David and Darla’s school bus driver would give them a heads up whenever Jean was making doughnuts, as he could smell them as they approached the yard. Jean would always get the biggest smile and satisfaction in knowing that everyone was enjoying her cooking. The most valuable thing to her was always family. Whether she was knitting, baking or gardening … it was always with them in mind.

Jean is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, David & Jodie Cornea of Morse, SK; her granddaughters, Kaitlin Cornea and Shayla Cornea; her grandson, Grayson Kurtenbach; and by her great-granddaughter, Sylvie Jean Leadbetter.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Cornea, 2005; her daughter & son-in-law, Darla & Tim Kurtenbach; her parents, Henry & Lydia Fech; and by her brother, Gordon Fech.

The Graveside service was held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 pm from the Memory Lane Cemetery, Morse, SK with Celebrant Mandy Penner officiating.  In memory of Jean Cornea, donations made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation Inc., 2051 Saskatchewan Drive, Swift Current, SK, S9H 0X6 would be appreciated by the family. The family placed their trust with Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
