Jim Carleton Obituary

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Jim Carleton on September 8, 2021 in Regina SK, at the age of 67.

James Glenn Carleton was born December 31, 1953 in Cabri, SK to Glenn "Pic" (predeceased) & Betty Carleton (Seward) (predeceased). He was the youngest of three boys. All of them spent most of their childhood either at the rink or the ball diamond. Jim attended Cabri School and was active in minor sports, especially hockey and baseball. He was a lifelong member of the Cabri Brass band, where he played the tuba. Jim's nickname was Charlie, which was given to him as he reminded everyone of his grandfather, Charlie Seward, who always smoked a pipe and had the calmest demeanor, just like Jim.

Jim attained his Business Administration Diploma from Lakeland College. Jim married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Wendy Carleton (Telke) on October 5, 1974 in Cabri. Jim & Wendy raised three sons — Dustin, Gavin, and Troy. Dustin married Heather and they have three children — Jo, Alex, and Braden (Swift Current, SK). Gavin married Camille and they have two children — Matthew and Katelyn (Saskatoon, SK). Troy married Brianna and they have one child, Margot (Beaver Flat, SK).

After he married Wendy, they moved to Hazlet, SK where Jim worked for the Credit Union. They moved back to Cabri, where he worked at the Esso with his father. In 1980, Jim & Wendy packed up their family and moved to Blackfoot, AB to work with his brother, Pete, and run the Peter Wolf clothing store in Lloydminster, AB. Then it was back to Cabri by 1988 to run Pic's Place until 2002. During this time, Jim started working for AM Inspection as an Industrial Radiographer up until his passing — it was a 35-year career.

In 2011, Jim & Wendy built their dream home in Beaver Flat where they enjoyed spending time on the boat, teaching their grandkids various watersports, fishing, and camping on the beach. He enjoyed coffee and bird watching on the deck, admiring his apple trees, and spending holidays with loved ones. The lake is the place where everyone is welcome and treated like family.

Jim was a devoted father and grandfather "Papa." When he wasn't working, he spent most of his free time attending his grandkids dance recitals, swim meets, gymnastic meets, hockey games, baseball games, Taekwondo competitions, band recitals, and birthdays. He was their biggest fan and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for them.

Jim was also a big fan of the Oilers and Blue Jays. Many will remember Jim's quiet but humorous nature, and of course, his mustache. Never one to complain, he always put everyone else first. He literally would have done anything for his family.

Left to mourn this incredible loss is his devoted wife of 46 years, Wendy Carleton; his sons and their families, Dustin (Heather) and their children, Jo, Alex and Braden; Gavin (Camille) and their children Matthew and Katelyn; and Troy (Brianna) and their daughter Margot; his brother, Pete (Tamara) and their son, CJ (Aneta); his brother, Brent (predeceased) (Irene) Carleton and their children Kevin Carleton (Cheryl) and Mike Carleton (Shantel); his parents in-law, Erwin & Olive Telke; his brother-in-law, Jim (Cindy) Telke and their children Jordan (Megan), Jade (Josh) and Jacy; and by numerous great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Our family is grateful for and wishes to thank the ER staff at the Swift Current Regional Hospital, Stars Air Ambulance, and the medical team at the Regina General Hospital.
