John Fehr (husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend) passed away on March 29, 2025 at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre after a short battle with heart and kidney disease.
John was born on October 3, 1938 in Blumenhof, Saskatchewan to Jacob & Helena (Martens) Fehr. He received a Grade 8 education in Blumenort. He was later baptized and married in the Chortitz EMC Church.
At the age of 22, he married his love, Anna Wolfe. They had three children: Tammy, Brenda, and Randy. John worked on a road construction crew during the early years of marriage, but they settled down in Regina when their oldest child was ready to start school. John started his heavy-duty mechanic career at White Trucks in Regina. Without any secondary education, he challenged the journeyman test and became a heavy-duty journeyman mechanic.
In 1976, the dream of becoming his own boss and co-owner of Neville Garage became a reality. He moved his family from Regina to Neville. Along with his brother and business partner, Dave and his family, they provided a service to the people of Neville and surrounding area.
In 1994, the decision was made to close Neville Garage and move to Swift Current. John continued his working career, first at Tune-A-Matic, then Superior Engine, and finally Pioneer Co-op Service Station. Whatever job he had, he always gave it his best. If the engine didn’t purr to his liking, it didn’t leave the shop until it sounded right.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed gardening, working in the shop, going on road trips with his son-in-law, and going for coffee to McDonald’s to catch up with his friends. In later years, he became an avid Blue Jays fan, and he spent many family gatherings talking with his grandchildren about the Blue Jays. He also passed on his love for Jesus to anyone willing to listen. He was usually the one asked to say grace at family gatherings, and he always obliged with a heartfelt blessing.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob (1982) and Helena (2004), his parents-in-law, Peter Wolfe (1982) and Katharina Wolfe (1983), a sister in infancy, brother Jacob (2011), brother Henry (2021), brother-in-law Alan MacTavish (1984), sister-in-law Mary MacTavish (1984), niece Melissa Repetski (2012), nephew Douglas Fehr (2019), nephew Bruce MacTavish (2022), and nephew Brian MacTavish (2022).
John is survived by Anna, his loving wife of 64 years; children Tammy (Jake), Brenda, and Randy (Tanya); grandchildren Sheldon (Jess), Aaron (Kendra), Nicholas, Katelyn (Keaton), and Carson; great-grandchildren Nicole and Bailey; his brothers Cornelius (Lydia) of Wymark, William (Dorothy) of Cochrane, David (Susan) of Warman, and Leslie (Sharon) of Neville; his sister Linda (Jacob Wiebe) of Swift Current; sisters-in-law Elda and Gail, both of Regina; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Service will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:30pm at the Community Baptist Church in Swift Current, SK.
