John C. Giesbrecht, age 95 years and six months, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. John was born September 19, 1926 to John & Elizabeth Giesbrecht in Chortitz, SK — the second of five children. He grew up in Chortitz and attended Versailles School.
Throughout his life, John worked at various jobs including three gold mines in Yellowknife, NWT, a sugar beet farm in Taber, AB, and Dominion Fruit (Western Grocers), CP Transport, Sears, and REM Manufacturing in Swift Current.
On February 23, 1954 John married Katherina “Kaye” Penner, and they shared 62 years of life together. This union was blessed with six children.
John is survived by his children and their families, his daughter, Carol (Murray) Goertzen – Mike (Jolene), Kole, and Tai Giesbrecht; (Andy) McGowan – Adam, Justice, and Emma McGowan; Micah (Andi), Elijah, and Yarah McGowan; his son, Victor (Charlene) Giesbrecht – Shantel (Kyle), Brooklyn, and Avery Ottenbreit; Tiffany (Raymond), Hudson, and Adalyn Marsolais; Daniel (Nicole), Levi, and Silas Giesbrecht; his daughter, Peggy (Rob) Taylor – Matthew, and Cody Taylor; his daughter, Rose (Eddie) Chau – Corbin (Kirsten), and Connor (Larissa) Chau; his daughter, Wendy McColl – Kudra McColl; and by his brother, Dave (Kaye) Giesbrecht.
John was predeceased by his wife, Kaye Giesbrecht; his daughter, Sherry McGowan; his parents, John & Elizabeth Giesbrecht; and by his siblings, Pete (Irene) Giesbrecht, Anna (Frank) Dyck, and Abe (Vel) Giesbrecht.
The Memorial Service for John Giesbrecht was held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm from Community Baptist Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Joell Haugan officiating. “How Great Thou Art,” “It is Well,” and “It Will Be Worth it All” were sung by the congregation. The service was recorded and can be viewed here.
The Private Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Rosenort Cemetery, Rosenort, SK with John’s grandchildren, Mike Giesbrecht, Adam McGowan, Micah McGowan, Shantel Ottenbreit, Tiffany Marsolais, Daniel Giesbrecht, Matthew Taylor, Cody Taylor, Corbin Chau, Connor Chau, and Kudra McColl serving as Pallbearers.
