John Hildebrandt Obituary

The Funeral Service for John Hildebrandt was recorded and will be posted as soon as possible. It can still be viewed by following the livestream link listed below by the service details.

John R. Hildebrandt, age 84, of the Wymark District went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre, Gull Lake, SK. John R. Hildebrandt was born on December 25, 1938 to Peter & Elizabeth Hildebrand on the family farm near Wymark, SK – the eighth out of ten children. As a child, he attended Montford School and the EMC Church in Chortitz, SK.

John married the love of his life, Joyce Lange, on June 22, 1968 in Swift Current, SK. They were blessed to be married for nearly 55 wonderful years and together, they built a beautiful life on the family farm with their three children. John dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a quiet, caring man with exceptional patience and family was always his first priority – he remained a hardworking, dependable husband and father throughout his life.

John was a farmer at heart and continued to farm for as long as his health allowed. John, Joyce, and their children enjoyed many projects together like shingling, painting, and siding their farm buildings. Harvest was a special event when the whole family would help out and eat meals on the field. His children fondly remember the many fun fishing trips he enjoyed taking them on and coming home to eat fresh fish together.

He always knew how to have fun with his kids, whether playing baseball, letting them have numerous kinds of pets, taking them on trips, or doing a jig to make them laugh. John also loved being with his six grandchildren and giving them quad rides, having wiener roasts, picking vegetables, or pushing them on the tree swing he made for them. John was most content being on the farm with his family and friends, enjoying one another’s company.

John & Joyce faithfully attended the Christian Fellowship Church in Rhineland where he appreciated the uplifting services and being the Sunday greeter. He loved and served the Lord in his quiet way. In 2020, due to health reasons, John was moved to Prairie Wind Estate in Herbert, SK and then in February 2023 was moved to the Gull Lake Special Care Centre. Although the transition was not easy, he made the best of it and made many good friends in Herbert and Gull Lake.

John’s family will forever cherish the special memories they have and greatly miss him, but are so very thankful that he is now with Jesus and is completely healed. They look forward to seeing him again someday.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Joyce; his children, Darryl (Catherine), Cameron, and Sherilyn (Terry); his grandchildren, Kyle, Laura, Amy, Alayna, Evan, and Ty Anderson; his siblings, Isaac and Justine; his sisters-in-law, Tiena, Frieda, Viola (Jack), and Norma (Frank); and many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents, Peter & Elizabeth Hildebrandt; his siblings, Eva, Peter, Mary, Helen, Henry, Elizabeth, and Jake; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and by several nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Prairie Wind Estates and Gull Lake Special Care Centre who provided excellent care to John. Thank you to Dr. Kassett and Dr. Kozroski for their outstanding care. Also, thank you to the staff at Swift Current Funeral Home for their compassion and assistance.

“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25
