John Klassen

John Klassen, age 91, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, surrounded by family.

John H. Klassen was born on May 30, 1935 in his home in Rheinfeld, Saskatchewan (Sec 27 – Tp13 – Rge12 – W of 3rd) to Henry F. and Aganetta Klassen, the second youngest of six children.

When John was only 10 years old he and his dad began to build the farm establishment near McMahon, Saskatchewan. He was a farm boy at heart. Even notes within his grade 6 schoolwork stated he wanted to be a farmer when he grew up, just like his dad. John was an accomplished athlete taking 1st place trophies in track & field, table tennis, hockey, and fastball. His nickname was “homerun Johnny”.

In 1962, John married his sweetheart, Elizabeth “Liz” Klassen (Peters) and built a house on the same farmstead as his mom and dad in the McMahon area. In having very little, they worked hard and raising cattle, chickens, pigs, growing a large garden, and farming their 5 quarters with very poor equipment. They even tried raising turkeys and ducks, but only for one year as that did not turn out well. They were blessed with two children, Roxane and Wendell, along with 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

John was actively involved in leadership positions as a church elder and the board of directors with the McMahon Co-op. He also faithfully served in the church as a Boys Brigade leader, greeter, and deacon. His faith in Christ was at the centre of all he did and how he acted. Showing others his love in kindness, generosity, and genuine concern was pivotal to his character. No one would be able to walk by John without a smile and being asked a few questions regarding how they were doing and inquiring about their life. The testimony and example he set for his family and friends is priceless and his crown in heaven will be beautiful. We look forward to rejoicing with him again one day.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. John H. Klassen of Swift Current and formerly of McMahon will take place on Friday, June 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from Bridgeway Community Church in Swift Current with Pastor Bob Cappelle and Pastor Darren Kennedy officiating. The Private Interment Service will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Swift Current.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so Thursday, June 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the Swift Current Funeral Home.
