John Penner

John P. Penner, age 90, of Swift Current passed away peacefully at the Meadows – House 9, on Monday, March 30, 2022.

John was born February 9, 1932 in the Cruickshank District, north of Main Centre, SK to Peter J. & Justina (Wiebe) Penner. There, he grew up on the family farm with his eleven brothers and sisters.

John married Nellie Klassen of Herbert, SK on December 8, 1956 and they were married for 65 years. Together, they raised two children — Brian and Donna.

John was employed as a farm labourer with the Department of Agriculture at the Research Station in Swift Current for more than thirty years. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, taking family trips to BC and northern Saskatchewan. The most memorable were their family trips to Hawaii and the Radium Hot Springs.

In his spare time, John enjoyed carpentry, welding and metal work, gardening, golf, collecting family photos, and reminiscing about time spent with his siblings.

The family would like to give recognition to the healthcare providers at the Meadows – House 9 for their support and care of our father during his stay.

John is survived by his loving wife, Nellie; his children, Brian (Carolyn) Penner and Donna Penner; his grandchildren, Nathan (Jena) Penner, Melissa (Duane) Reimer, Miranda (Kent) Robertson, Krystia (Richard) Elgar, and Shalayna (Tyler) Flurey; his nine great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents, Peter J. & Justina Penner; and by his siblings and their spouses, Peter Penner, Agnes Funk, Justina Dueck, Henry Penner, Alma Schulz, Edward Penner, Manda Friesen, Diedrich “Dick” Penner, Abe Penner, Bernard “Bernie” Penner, and Linda Spetz.

The Private Family Funeral Service for John Penner was held at the Swift Current Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryon Bezanson officiating.

The Private Family Interment Service for John Penner took place from Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with John's family serving as pallbearers.
