John Prytula

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. John Prytula passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Cypress House, Swift Current, SK.

John was born May 6, 1932 to Peter & Lucy Prytula on the farm north of Gronlid, SK. Upon completion of his schooling, John married Ruth Irene Ganton on August 25, 1956 in Melfort, SK. John & Ruth welcomed their son, Keith John Prytula, on December 9, 1957.

John touched many lives over the years with his variety of professions, he finished his working career with the Government of Saskatchewan in Prince Albert, SK in 1994. John dabbled in many hobbies, including square dancing, wood working, gardening, and his beautiful stained-glass creations that many family and friends were gifted. He could be found tinkering in his shop with a variety of things.

John & Ruth travelled well within Canada and the United States. Family was greatly valued to John, and he held strong ties with his siblings and his many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren and great- grandchildren, they were the light of his life.

John was predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Cove Prytula; his sisters and their husbands, Mary (Harry) Russell and Ann (Jim) Gordon; and by his brothers and their wives, Bill (Joanna) Prytula, Steve (Matilda) Prytula, and Pete (Pauline) Prytula.

He will be forever missed by his wife, Ruth; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith &Tracy; his grandchildren, Jennelle (Blaine) and Christopher (Kayla); and by his great- grandchildren, Mya, Madison, Maverick, Wren, Saije, and Oak.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Cypress House for the care he received and also to Dr Bakare from the Southwest Medi Centre.

In respect of John’s final wishes, there will be a Graveside Service in 2024 for immediate family in Melfort, SK.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of John Prytula, donations made to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family. Donation information is available on the funeral home website.
