Karen Dickie (nee Nyen), age 61, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK surrounded by her family.
Karen Marie Dickie was born on April 2, 1963 in Gull Lake, SK, the 5th child of Allan & Phyllis Nyen. Karen lived the majority of her life in Gull Lake and Swift Current. She married Rod Dickie on June 25, 1993 at Red Lodge, Montana, USA which was a favorite holiday destination for them. Karen & Rod welcomed their first daughter, Lindsay, in 1996 and their second daughter, Taylor, in 2000. She worked for SaskTel for almost 43 years.
Karen & Rod led a very active lifestyle and loved taking their daughters on trips to the mountains skiing, hiking, and biking. She loved all sports but had a real passion for skiing, golfing, paddleboarding, biking, and swimming. When Karen was ready to relax, she’d spend her time reading and colouring while soaking in the Vitamin D. She also was an avid curling and F1 fan, making sure to watch as much of both as she could.
Karen enjoyed taking in her daughter’s sport activities, chasing them across the province, but was always first in line to get involved with the many teams they were part of. She was a true animal lover and had many beloved dogs and cats over the years. A music lover as well, Karen loved heading to concerts and spending Sunday afternoons playing the piano.
Karen loved getting together with their extended family, going to musicals, camping trips, and trips to the lake. She also liked going on trips with her friends, and they were able to go on many adventures. Karen’s adventurous spirit, thoughtful nature, and sense of humor will be missed by all who got to be apart of her life. Karen was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December 2024.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Allan & Phyllis Nyen; her in-laws, Joe & Vi Dickie; a nephew, Codi; and by her aunts and uncles. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Rod Dickie; her daughters, Lindsay Dickie and Taylor; her siblings, Wendy (Ted) Sells, Sandy (Boyd) Beatty, Gerry (Debbie) Nyen, Bob (Viv) Nyen, Cathy (Lance) Ford, and Darren (Debbie) Nyen; her sister-in-law, Judy Dickie; and by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
