Kay Smandych, age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at The Meadows in Swift Current, SK
Kay Christine Smandych was born on February 4, 1949 in Swift Current, SK to Kalmer & Clara Erickson of Simmie, SK.
Kay obtained her education in Saskatchewan at schools in Simmie, Shaunavon, and Outlook.
Kay travelled west to Alberta, up to northern BC, and back to Alberta. She settled in Calgary to raise her three sons, Shawn, Jason (predeceased April 6, 2025) and Cory.
Kay was a dedicated employee at a Land Consulting Company in Calgary. She worked her way up from secretary to office manager. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Swift Current to care for family.
Kay was heavily involved in volunteering and mission work, which took her from down in the streets, to the fields of Africa, even helping settle refugees into Canada.
It was good for her soul and her love of travel.
Kay was also fearless once scaring a bear off her children while out camping, which truly demonstrated her selflessness when it came to those she loved.
Kay is survived by sons, Shawn of Ontario, and Cory of Alberta; her Grandchildren; a brother, Terry (Marilyn), of New York; a sister, Joanne (Gilles), of Ontario; and by her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Jason; her parents, Clara & Kalmer; a brother, Kevin; and by a sister, Sharon.
