Larry Allen Korsberg was born on April 29, 1938 in Frontier, SK to Olaf & Sadie Korsberg, the second of five children. He attended elementary school in Loomis, SK and enjoyed the opportunity to attend high school in Frontier, SK and roomed at A.O. Andreson’s to attend school. Once Larry finished school, he started his career working with the Royal Bank in Shaunavon, SK. He then worked at Simpson Sears in Swift Current. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Marian, at Cypress Hills Provincial Park. They were married on March 14, 1959 in Webb, SK. Larry & Marian went on to own the grocery store in Webb, from June 1962 – August 1964. During this time, Larry served on the United Church board, taught Sunday School, and coached the boy’s ball team. Their move to Calgary, AB brought about new changes to their lives. Larry started to work for Nelson Homes selling manufactured homes. While they waited to start their family, they fostered children. On July 9, 1965 they adopted Gwenda Lee, on November 23, 1966 they adopted Calvin Lynn, and on July 11, 1968 their daughter, Karen Joy was born. Larry’s territory was closer to Lethbridge, AB so they relocated there. They spent a lot of time with Orland & Gail and family who also lived there. Time marched on and Larry switched to selling homes for Beaver Homes which required the family to move to Regina, SK. Their home was on Grant Road where they made many lifelong friends. Beaver Homes promoted Larry to Sales Manager for all Western Canada. So, in 1972 the family left Regina and moved to Winnipeg, MB. As always new forever friends were made at both the Lakewood house and on Mulvey St. A tent trailer was purchased and the whole family enjoyed weekends away camping and fishing. Big city life was wearing on Larry & Marian and in 1976 they decided to go back to their small-town roots and move to St. Leon, MB. Larry started managing at the Coop doing what he loved, selling manufactured homes. They built their own house there and enjoyed all their new friendships and kept in touch with them as they decided in 1978 to make another move 30 minutes away to Swan Lake, MB. Larry was offered the manager job at the steel plant, called Indian Springs Products Ltd. on the Swan Lake Indian Reserve. He embraced the opportunity and took us to pow wows, drumming, and dancing events. Larry & Marian’s parents were aging and they were missing family, so in 1981 they moved the family to Shaunavon, SK which was right in the middle of both his and Marian’s family. Larry had the opportunity to go in with a couple of buddies and purchase Chimo Homes. It was perfect balance of being close enough for lots of family gatherings to happen at Frontier, Webb, and Swift Current. The coffee pot went on at 6:00 am and was on as long as neighbors, friends, and family needed it to be. When that business fell by the wayside, time didn’t stop and Larry & Marian started a new business, Unique Janitorial Services that entailed cleaning at local businesses. They also took on the caretaking at Shaunavon Public School. During this time the 2 sisters (Marian and Gail), along with the 2 brothers (Larry and Orland) started Korsberg’s Catering Service with the help of Karen, Terri, and the other 3 when they were available. Larry & Marian purchased the house next door to them and became landlords. Both were handy and did reno’s so the place would be a nice home for those that rented it. When Marian passed away from cancer on October 3, 1993, after 34 years of marriage, all that came to an end and Larry became bereft with grief and at a loss. Larry met Edmée, they clicked and became a couple and Larry remarried on May 23, 1994. Edmée’s job took them to Lannigan, SK. There, Larry opened up Evergreen Treasures where he could meld his love of all things woodsy and crafty, and where all his talents could be shared. “Retirement” came in the form of them purchasing several lots on Shannon Rd on the edge of Lannigan, where a garden paradise came into being. Gardens aplenty were harvested and all their carefully tended flowers, shrubs and trees flourished along with lush grass. A multi-level pond gurgled and flowed with a fairy village and wooden carvings in amongst the banks of the pond and the trees. They did renovations and added onto their place so they could enjoy some more space to do their hobbies of painting and woodworking. Once again, Larry forged ahead and along with Edmée they became landlords to tenants that became friends and were treated like family. They were always up to entertain and provide yummy meals to their friends and Edmée’s colleagues. Edmée passed away from cancer after 23 years of marriage on June 12, 2017. Two wives, both succumbed to the big C. It was devastating to Larry. Time at the Shannon Rd house slowed and Larry with the help of Edmée’s and his family sorted through a lifetime of memories and got ready for an auction. Larry sold the place to their much-loved tenants and moved back to Swift Current to be closer to family. Orland & Gail were only a hop, skip, and a jump away from him on the same side of town. Larry would need a place with some help, so he moved into the Bently for awhile and then went onto Willow Creek Manor when he needed more support. He definitely liked that they had antiques galore there and that they decorated the place for holidays and celebrated events. Shirley Anne and all the staff spoiled him. He enjoyed them and how they treated him just like family. Larry‘s health continued to fail as he was in and out of the hospital for a year or so before he moved into the Clover House on April 29, 2026, his 88th birthday. The nurses made him a balloon out of a rubber glove with happy birthday on it. It was very thoughtful of them. He wasn’t really up for cake, but he sure got a kick out of the glove balloon. It was a hit!
The family thanks you all at Willow creek Manor for making it home for him.
Thank you to Dr Savoy, Dr Shah, and all the nurses and staff for the excellent care
they gave Dad and us while he was at Clover House. It was appreciated!
I like this memory cousin Bev shared about our dad. She said, “I remember your dad saying, when Trevor passed, that there were lots up there to welcome him, and that’s what I was thinking about your dad, that he’d finally be reunited with your mom”.
Yes, Bev and everyone here, I’m sure mom and everyone else were all there to welcome him and make him feel at home and loved! That’s so fitting, because no matter what job he had, wherever he lived and worked, dad was always hospitable and welcoming to all. He lived a full and wonderful life and that’s something to be proud of!
Bye for now dad … love from us all, until we meet again!
